With turtles you want at least 3 times the filtration so 40 gallons of water needs a 160 gallon rated filter or stronger. Also it is recommended that you house your turtles separately as they are going to grow to be 8-12 inches long and are solitary in the wild! Currently running 2 fx6 on my 260 gallon which is about 7x flow rate and I’m debating adding a third to get closer to that 10x mark.
