Explore the miracles of the microscopic world. Find out all about the unique and beautiful kingdoms of life at a microscopic scale and how every organism meets the challenges of survival no matter its size. The perfect book for people who enjoy photography, nature and biology. Inside the pages of this exciting educational nature book, you’ll find: • Microscopic life-forms (often neglected), and their life-forms in extreme close-ups, revealing details such as nerve cells and hair follicles. • Artworks support the beautiful images, providing a deeper insight into structure and function and building a picture of how living organisms work at a microscopic level. • Comprehensive coverage of the natural world, including all the main groups of living things. • Explores overlooked groups that have a huge role in the natural world: insects, which make up 80% of the world’s animal species, and bacteria ― of which there are more in a human mouth than there are people in the world. • The book is organized according to the main functions of life: movement, reproduction, energy and feeding, sensing the surroundings, defense, etc. • Optional 80-page section containing a catalog of the major kingdoms of life. The beauty of nature under a microscope Explore the inhabitants of an invisible world in incredible detail with this book, which contains macro photography and spectacular microscope imagery. You'll have so much information about the hidden world of intricate structures beyond the naked eye. From the tiniest spiders and insects to even microscopic creatures like bacteria and viruses, this book contains it all! See the beauty of a pollen grain, a butterfly egg, the spore of a fungus and a human’s nerve cell in extreme close up. The amazing imagery in Micro Life contains focus-stacked macro photographs and micrographs (microscope images), including scanning electron micrographs. Illustrations in this book explain the science ― from the workings of an insect’s eye to how a plant "breathes" through its leaves. Micro Life is an unexpectedly breathtaking look at the natural world. Find out how life works and how organisms solve the fundamental problems of movement, reproduction, energy, communication and defense. This book belongs on the bookshelves of schools, libraries and homes for those interested in photography, nature or biology. Review: Ten out of Ten - Ten out of ten. This book is magnificent. I bought it for my gifted kiddo who exhausted all he could learn from a different book on Bacteria, and we were blown away with the quality of the images, and the information contained in this monster book. I highly recommend it. Review: Not exactly what I expected, but my fault! - A coffee table must have for those who enjoy the truly smaller things in life. Pictures are wonderful. Info is abundant. Most of the images in the book are of things much smaller than this adorable ant, while I was looking for a book that dealt more with insects and arachnids. I still wasn't disappointed.

Microscopic creatures, this book is well done with truly fascinating photos, so interesting!
Our kids love biology especially microbiology (we have a tardigrade fan in our home). I searched for months for a book that was appropriate for a nine year old including information on reproduction. That area of this book discusses the science with plants and humans and doesn't get into adult matters, simply egg fertilization, DNA and cellular division. This was the winner, after returning some other books that I did not think were appropriate that were over descriptive with unnecessary details (on copulation, etc). The kids didn't want to put this book down with all the amazing micro-creatures to ask more about. The photos are fascinating and the presentation of information is well done. We love the closeups! This book seems very thoughtfully and intentionally designed for readers interested in the microscopic world around us. Recommend.

Astonishingly Fascinating
Long time DK fan here, I currently own 35 DK titles. So it’s not a frivolous statement when I say DK may have out-done their self on this one. The micro photography is second to none, opening worlds unseen to the naked eye. Simply incredible. To say I get queasy looking at images of human medical surgery is an understatement. So if you’re a germ-a-phob (no judgment here), you’ll need to brace yourself should you decide to open the book. Some things are just creepy or what I don’t want to know, i.e. “Gut Communities” and “Living In Hair” are just two examples. Maybe that’s why they’re so small — So we don’t see them in our hair! Ever think of that? Now I just pretend they’re not there. The unbelievably cool part is it’s easy to see The Flower Of Life / Sacred Geometry in many of the images. Mind blown. If you only purchase one DK book in your life, I currently advise you make it this one. Its one of those books where no description will do it justice. You simply have to see it to really get the idea.

One of the most visually stunning books I have ever seen - WOULD MAKE AND EXCELLENT GIFT!!
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever owned. The visuals are beyond outstanding. The language is clear and concise and very easy to understand. This book will appeal to young and old alike. This book would make an excellent gift for a youngster because it could inspire him/her to pursue science-related studies. I wish I had had such a book when I was a youngster. However, I am thrilled to have it as an adult! I will tell you that on my iPad Air 2, the digital version is a tiny bit glitchy. The pages hesitate a little as they "turn." However, my device is pretty old, so that certainly could be a factor. If you do decide to buy this book as a gift, get the hard bound. It will make a handsome and very special gift. There is no two ways about it: This book was worth every penny I paid for it. You can’t go wrong with this book!!!

Great book with lots of interesting pictures.
I only took a short look through it. The book i received was in awful condition, so I returned it. I'll buy it soon again since the book itself is great.
