Perfect for beginners
I recently started playing badminton with some friends from work and really enjoying it as sport that gets heart rate up and also an opportunity for laugh outside of work. One thing that I learned very quickly is that we were always playing with worn out shuttlecocks. Normally the tell-tale sign being they don't tend do go where you want them to which is caused by the nylon on the tips splitting in places. I'm definitely going to blame the tools on this one negatively affecting my game play! I bought these white Yonex Mavis 300 'blues' which seem to be the same as one of my mates, but his are luminous yellow with a blue ring instead. Essentially they are a rubber coated cork with nylon mesh attached. They seem well made and I've played with a them a few times since I purchased them. They do feel a little heavier/slower than my friends luminous yellow ones but I can't be sure if it's because these are new and less worn or they are slightly different weight. I've only ever played with nylon shuttlecocks so can't compare these to the feathered ones that pros use, but for beginners these seem brilliant to me. A pack of 6 works out at ยฃ1.33 each which is really good value and even if they do wear out quickly then it doesn't break the bank replacing them. Unfortunately replacing the shuttlecocks with new ones hasn't improved my play at all. I guess that must mean it's the racket that's faulty then! Pros: - Yonex is a well known brand of badminton kit - Brilliant value - Well made - Pack of 6 Neutral: - I can't work out if they are slightly different weight to my friends old luminous yellow ones. Cons: - None

Good price shuttlecocks
Ordered these for family to play badminton. Standard all round shuttlecocks. We play for fun so cant comment about speed etc. They were priced competitively at the time of ordering.

For an enthusiastic amateur
I came into the game imagining that the more professional shuttlecocks, made of feathers, would be better for a game of badminton. Naturally, I am no professional and soon found feather shuttlecocks exasperating for a number of reasons. First of all, they are heavier, and slower, which means I have to use more energy than necessary. Secondly, and more importantly, they break really fast. My friends and I went through about 4 or 5 of these professional shuttlecocks in the course of one, only one, hour. As it is only really an intermittent hobby, it is rather impractical to be continually buying new shuttlecocks. I decided that, in my badminton endeavours, I would resort to the lowlier, less professional shuttlecocks made out of nylon. These are faster, lighter and they actually last - for a long, long time. I have made good friends with these 6 shuttlecocks and enjoy their easy-going nature much more than their somewhat overrated pompous cousins. I would recommend these shuttlecocks for anyone who views their badminton as an enthusing game, that is more a hobby rather than a professional sport.

Great Quality Shuttlecocks
I'm a beginner-intermediate badminton player. These shuttlecocks were just what I needed, light but you can still pack plenty of power into them. And the sound they make is really satisfying too. They travel nice and fast through the air. Definitely recommended for beginners, intermediated and pros too.

Best option for club shuttles
I've played with lots of shuttles and these are the best shuttles I've used for leisure and club. They are consistently good, fly well and feel good on contact with the racket.

A touch slow
I am a mid performance player and have played for more than 50 yrs - mainly with family and friends, in Asia and the UK. Having used a wide variety of shuttlecocks, feather, plastic and hybrid our significant collection of shuttlecocks was slowly deteriorating until it was hard to find a good one to actually play with so we took the plunge and bought a new tube. Tried these, mainly for ease of ordering. They are absolutely fine and can take a miss hit without damage. They are though a touch slow, in my opinion, and I have not reached this conclusion lightly. The rest of the family immediately noticed this too. I can, or more accurately could, reach the back of the court with a heavy strike from the rear of my own court. With these it is near impossible to do that and both myself and various family members can hit a shuttle about as hard as it is physically possible to do. In view of this difficulty I bought some hybrid Carlton shuttles from a local store and despite being the same blue speed rating (the same as all our previous shuttles) these move just a little bit faster than the Yonex. The Carlton have a covered cork head and plastic 'feathers', whereas the Yonex are all plastic. In terms of game play, beginners might enjoy the Yonex because, as they cannot go as far, they would not be as easily be hit long and might potentially stay in play longer which could be fun. That said, from a beginners perspective I would say the Yonex could also in some ways be limiting as it would be even harder for a beginner to get these to the back of the court from any position on their court. In terms of mid ranking players I tend to the view that the Yonex is slightly annoying because almost no matter what you do, if you are hitting long to reach the back of the opponents court from the back of your own court, then they end up short and high and therefore it basically sets your opponent up to smash it. If you know about badminton you will know this is exactly what you should avoid at all costs, as it sets your opponent up to win. If you have miss hit or misjudged it, then this is fair enough but it seems almost impossible to avoid this scenario with the Yonex. I suspect the Yonex will be slightly more durable than the Carlton due to its all plastic construct. Feather shuttles are really the best as they fly differently and make a more pleasing noise when struck. Feather shuttles do literally self destruct during play and obviously if you miss hit them you can write the shuttle off or spoil its flight with one bad strike. Obviously as beginners tend to miss hit more, feathers might be less useful for learning or quite an expensive way to learn anyway. So feathers are the best but definitely wear our much quicker.
