## Description

desertcart.com: Otter Wax Saddle Soap | 2oz | All-Natural Leather Cleaner | Made in USA : Health & Household

Review: Great Product with some caveats. But you will love the results. - This is exactly as advertised. It is a castile soap with beeswax and other ingredients. It does not seem to contain significant amounts of lanolin, in any at all, like other saddle soaps I am accustomed to. This may make it undesirable for some uses where lanolin is important. I use their other Leather Salve and Leather Oil products, which are outstanding so I decided to give this a try. I purchased this because a pair of very expensive dress shoes were soaked in a recent rain storm and I was concerned about the dirt and any potential water damage so I gave them the full OtterWax treatment. After letting them dry with cedar shoe trees for 4 days I decided to tackle the job. With a soft brush, I found that the saddle soap foamed up nicely and cleaned my very dirty shoes, including the leather soles. It is not a harsh cleaner like Bick 1 so it takes a little more elbow grease to use it, but it did a great job and was gentle on the light walnut brown finish on my shoes. After allowing to dry, I followed up with Leather Salve, which I also worked in a bit, and then leather oil. Both were followed by allowing to soak in and dry, wiping with a soft clean cloth, and then buffing with a shoe brush. After the oil the shoes looked so good I almost didn't polish them. However, I did give them a good polish with shoe cream and then about 4 coats of neutral carnauba polish to bring out the shine and leather. These shoes now look as good as new and perhaps better, with a lot more depth to the shine. It is true that this soap is harder and not as oily as other brands and I would not recommend it unless you were to commit to working it well to allow the bees wax to emulsify and get into the leather then following up with either their leather salve or leather oil if not both. On the other hand, this allows the product to clean and not get into or darken the leather as much as more traditional versions. I think these guys are afraid of meat or something, because there are no four-legged oils in their products and just a touch of lanolin would make this stuff the master of all saddle soaps. I think that this stuff works best on a warm sunny day, which is funny because they make this stuff in Portland, OR. I was looking for gentle natural products to maintain or revive my handmade shoes and in essence to respect the leather. If that is what you are looking for, then Otter Wax is the stuff for you and you won't be disappointed. This will gently but thoroughly clean your leather and is a great first step to caring for leather products.
Review: Good stuff - This is really good leather soap. I’ve cleaned boots and a leather apron. Just know this container may not last long, depending on the size of what you’re cleaning. But it was very effective.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I use it almost many times, I can't creative cleaning -foam,could you tell me what's the reason of it ?**
A: I think your asking why the soap doesn't have suds? It's because it's more of an oil based soap. It isn't supposed to get bubbles or suds. It isn't meant to cut grease like a dish soap, or hand soap. It's made for leather, so it's meant to clean it and keep it soft. No bubbles.

**Q: Can this product be used on snakeskin cowboy boots?**
A: We haven't tried using our Saddle Soap on snakeskin. I think it should be fine, but my only concern is that some of the soap might potentially accumulate between the scales. It's a gentle cleanser that shouldn't harm the scales, but I would definitely recommend tring it out on a small, discrete area to see how well it works before applying to the entire boot.

**Q: Can this be used on used on a leather strap of a watch?**
A: I'm not sure, I used this in high end leather boots. Worked well and was very happy with it. If it's real leather not sure why it wouldn't work.

**Q: Can I use this on a suede leather couch?**
A: No. I actually Googled your question, and came up with the below method to clean suede. I don't know if it will work, but I would try it before using the saddle soap. Saddle soap is for leather, not suede. Cleaning SuedeYou'll need the following:A bath towelA pencil eraserA suede brushWhite vinegarA dry clothFirst, rub the suede with a bath towel. Then, remove any dry stains with a pencil eraser. Next, brush over the suede with a suede brush. After that, apply a small bit of white vinegar to the stains and use the cloth to scrub the stains away. Finally, let the stains air-dry.

I use it on the leather on my bike. The saddle bags were weathered pretty good when I got it and this stuff cleaned them up well in one pass.
