The shelves are still functional but are vulnerable to fracture when struck or dropped on the shelf edges. Review: I'm very happy with the two units I purchased. They were easy to assemble and sturdy once put together yet it's also easy to pull them apart to reconfigure them, for example, if you want to only have two or three shelves instead of four. There's no risk of losing the posts since you can store them lying down between two layers of shelves when they're not in use. The instruction sheet would lead you to believe a pair of wall brackets is included to secure the units to the wall but I didn't find any with either of mine.
