I need to use a compass about 200 miles south of the equator. (In Ecuador) Will there be an issue with the weighting of the pointer?

You need to get a compass that is specific to southern hemisphere.

Thanks Open water ocean swimming - ok to carry in swim buoy in salt water in case of fog? 2x a week for 1-4 hours.

Yep, just take frequent readings and allow for drift. Make sure you know your desired course and wind/current direction BEFORE you start out.

Be careful

Product arrived with a bubble in the liquid face that prevented the needle from working correctly, and it had a slow leak that drained out within several days and stained my desk drawer. It became useless as a compass. Big disappointment

Simple and clear compass

I wanted a simple compass for travelling overseas and could not go past this one. It is clear, easy to read and strong enough to handle the knocks that are inevitable during travel. It is sturdy and very well made. I recommend this item highly.
