An Essential and Inspiring Guide for Every Watercolor Artist
The Complete Watercolorist’s Essential Notebook is a substantial, information-packed book that truly lives up to its name. It covers virtually everything you could ever want to know about watercolor and more. If there is one book to add to your watercolor or art collection, this is it. Not only is it incredibly informative, but it is also inspiring and encouraging. I truly wish I had discovered this book sooner. It answers nearly every question a beginner, as well as more experienced artists, might have. As someone newer to watercolor, I especially appreciated the chapters on choosing the right colors, since they clarified many things I had been confused about. The sections on selecting brushes are equally helpful, and I loved the DIY projects and tutorials scattered throughout the book, such as making your own palette and learning how to properly stretch paper. There are also excellent practical tips, like practicing brush strokes with water on brown wrapping/packing paper instead of paint so materials are not wasted. The book is filled with techniques, thoughtful explanations, and many small tips and tricks that make it a pleasure to read and revisit. It is an excellent reference that I know I will return to often. I only wish it were also available in a digital format.

Love this book
I've only just become interested in watercolours after using acrylics for years. I wanted a good introduction but not beginner level. I heard about this book from a YouTube video. It was not an advertisement, the artist just mentioned the book so I looked it up, the reviews were good, so I sent for it. I'm not disappointed. The book offers good all round advice but also shortcuts that make the process quicker and easier while producing professional results. If you want a side line earning from watercolour, this is going to help you get your goal. If you want to paint just for yourself, and be proud of your efforts, this is your book. The guy knows what he's talking about.

Covers a variety of techniques, clarifies terms, and instructs clearly and succinctly
This book really is the essential handbook for new watercolorists. Per its description, it really does compile years of experience into accessible information. For example, where it talks about transparent, semi-transparent and opaque, staining and non-staining pigments, it also mentions the techniques to which it is relevant. It talks about how certain brushes should behave and that some may be tricky to get the hang of, which is useful for figuring out whether your brush is terrible or you are. It covers little exercises for practicing basic techniques, and explores a variety of tools and ways of achieving interesting and unique results. It also covers how to compose a story in your image, and how to place the things in your picture to create a compelling piece of art. For beginner to intermediate painters, this book is an indispensable companion to exploring watercolour expression.

The Complete Watercolorist's Essential Notebook
