I have been frustrated with every mechanical timer I've tried so far because they restrict water flow so much, but this battery powered unit still allows 5 gpm + flow thru my 5/8 x 100' long hose which is great because it means I can run a high output impact sprinkler in my front yard and water the entire lawn, without concern of forgetting to shut off the sprinkler. Great for those of us who are busy and/or easily distracted (I see a lot of squirrels).... The user interface is PERFECT. The large dial on the left allows you to toggle quickly and easily thru all the settings, and the buttons are easy to push. The display screen is easy to read so no squinting/scratching your head or second guessing about what it is your doing. You can set this puppy to water everyday, every other, or whatever, and once or twice per day depending on what you're trying to do. For newly planted grass, the twice a day is perfect. Once my new grass is established I'll be able to use this thing for "deep watering" during dry spells because the timer can be set for some really long run times, and I can set it to go off at 4 or 5 AM if I want to. My timer is getting dripped on a bit from the old spicket it's attached to, and so far it really doesn't seem to care. I am only allowed to water 2 days/week (California drought).** A: Yes Leauna, it can be programmed to operate any day of the week and you can even have it water twice on your selected days (say before dawn and again at dusk) to minimize evaporation loss and maximize absorption by the plants. **Q: is it supposed to just connect to hose and work after set up? Mine doesnt stop any water flow no matter the setting.** A: Yes. Once connected to the faucet then a hose on the out flow and you have the batteries in and settings configured it should only allow water flow once the string is reached and opens the valve. It should not flow freely through the valve unless the strings allow it. When the valve is open water comes out with as much pressure as the hose bib had. I have forgotten to turn the hose bib completely open which defeated the whole timer system.
