The 3’x5’ is a good size for the side of my queen sized bed. It went perfect with my mossy forest theme bedroom. It is not as thin as it’s made out to be in some reviews. It has the thickness of a good quality bathroom mat. I walk and step on it when I get out of bed and it feels plushy on bare feet. Having painful feet issues I find that it takes the edge off the soreness when I step on it coming out of bed. It did not shed at all when I took it out and I even shook it. I find that it’s functional in a bedroom setting. I haven’t cleaned it yet but my advice for that is wash as normal, air dry, and use a wide tooth comb to fluff it up and yes “detangle” any tiny knots and fluff it back up again. I’d never put this in a dryer.
