Good lighting in total darkness.....
I bought 2 sets of these to use at my pole barn in areas where I need light. These are easy to install. The back plate comes off and allows for a way to easily mount with screws. This is the easy way to install them. They are battery powered and take 3 AAA batteries. (not included) The batteries last longer if you use them on the auto setting. I use 2 of these to light up a walking space in my pole barn that is totally dark and I have the other 2 mounted above my door locks so I can see to access the locks. These work well but they require darkness to operate. I mounted them high enough to give me the down lighting I needed but they are not so high I can't reach them to change batteries. Easy to remove. Just pull down on the ball. Otherwise, this is automatic lighting. The light comes on and off. On long enough to see. Stays on for 30 seconds or so and goes off as it should when no movement is detected. Not overly expensive. They solved a problem I had because I needed hands free lighting. Exactly what I needed.

Great for hunting hogs -- Here's a mounting template
First, I'm not the typical user. I use these for hunting feral hogs. My rifle has a thermal sight so I can see anything in the dark but it's tedious to keep the rifle raised with the sight to my eye for an hour or two so I place these where the hogs will pass. The purpose is not to light up the hogs but just to alert me that they're there. The thermal sight does the rest. I chose this because it's the only model I could find that used small (less than "c" size) batteries. That may be a downside for home users as the batteries (I use rechargeable NiZn) last about a week in my house. Non-rechargeable alkaline cells may last longer. For home use, these are pretty bright; one will easily light up a large master bedroom. Outside, the beam isn't very wide. One will light about 4 feet of a 3 foot wide sidewalk, not something I'd use for that. For a two car driveway, 2-4 will light it up fairly well. They're better for lighting a large area. With fresh batteries, the sensor will detect me at 10-15 feet. Using a lab power supply, I found that drops to about 6 feet at 2.9V. That would be less than 1 volt per battery and they should be considered dead. One problem with batteries in series (i.e. two or more) is that they don't discharge equally (especially rechargeable ones) and the weakest one may go to zero volts or even reverse voltage. That's a throwaway. The brightness decreases slightly with battery voltage. The lack of motion sensitivity is your clue that the batteries need replacing. The sensor is most sensitive to side-to-side movement and will detect straight-on movement at only about 6 feet. This is common for PIR (passive infrared) sensors due to the way they're built. There's a way around it but at a cost. I found too late that you don't need a mounting template. Just turn the base upside down, put your thumb in the hole and rotate the bottom counterclockwise. The bottom plate will detach and you can use that as a template. I attached photos of how I made a template just for grins. Plus a website that will make printable 2-1/2" triangles, easier. Oh well. Mounting screws can be #8 if you're dead-on. #6 works and will allow for some slop in drilling; go with that. So these are perfect for my purpose. They're easily placed anywhere I need them and they use cheap batteries. And they do detect hogs very well.

Will work right up until you canโt return it and Amazon is no help either
Edit to add - although Amazon didnโt care to help because it was 3 days past the return date when they stopped working, the seller was willing to help. Seller offered to replace them but I was worried same thing would happen and Iโd be in the same position trying to find someone to help so they refunded me. So positive review for the seller. Bought 2 sets of these so I have 4. Thought they were great at first. Motion worked great. They were fairly bright. Had them 3 days past a month. 3 days past my return window. Then 1 suddenly went dim (I didnโt even know it turned on). Next evening 2 more did the same. (Itโs not the batteries- brand new batteries). So I have only 1 working light now and amazon will not do anything to help me since itโs a few days past the return window. I guess they donโt care that I spent money on these lights that only worked for 1 month. The rep said she would send me the manufacturer contact information and to contact them. I said I wanted it while we were on the phone because just the other day I was told I was getting a link to the seller and it turned out to be a link to the amazon assistant which is most definitely NOT the seller. She told me she didnโt have the capability to tell me or email me while on the phone. Which is completely bs. Sure enough all she did was send me a link to the page to buy the light. I could have gone there myself. No additional information than I already had. So now I am stuck with 3 non functioning lights that are only 33 days old. I about done with amazon too.

Too Small, Loses Power QuicklyโAmazon Choice, Really?
Pro: cheap on the budget. I use these to light up my walk-up-stairs to my porch, so they are strictly used outside. Con: Because they use AAA batteries, they lose power very quickly--within 3 weeks, even though I have them set to "auto" for motion sensor only. I also have larger units that use AA batteries. They are much better. These are difficult to open to change out the 3 AAA batteries. Supposed to just twist and pull but I find I have to try to wedge a fingernail into the crack to pry them open. Finally got disgusted and trashed em. Waste of money. Went to solar-powered from Lowes. Looking back over other customer comments, frankly Iโm surprised Amazon put their โChoiceโ stamp on this product since there are many not-5-star ratings. Makes me not want to trust that in the future.

These work great!
I had a motion sensing light that โkicked the bucketโ after 10 years of faithful service. It was on the outside in my carport and made it easier to find keys and access the entrance. I immediately got on Amazon and bought a replacement. I put the batteries in and it immediately turned on with my motions. There is a light in the carport, but for me, turning it on was like an announcement that I was gone. Plus, itโs a floodlight and uses a lot of electricity to run. A motion sensing light is perfect for me! When I get out of the car at night it senses my movement and turns on. It saves me money and makes it safer for me to go up the 2 steps to get into my home. And, with the two pack ร have an extra one for other areas. You could use it to come on and light your way to bathrooms and the kitchen in case you need a late night snack!
