Anchorlube All-Purpose Metalworking Compound 8oz - Water-Based Cutting Fluid for Drilling, Tapping, Sawing - Great on Stainless Steel | No Oil

I am impressed. I got this to help with drilling out spot welds which I’ve not got to yet. I did however think about using it when recently drilling holes in thick steel (think Classic car shock tower). Wow, I don’t know if it was this stuff or not but I’ll say it was. Drilling these holes ended up being a pleasure even with older bits. I added a small dollop on the bit every so often and eventually got through cleanly with nice pig-tails of material. The bottle with twist-top applicator helps get the goo exactly when you want it, is easy to squeeze, close the top and store. The green color lets you know where it is. I’ll be using this a lot more often.

Works well, drilled a bunch of holes in 1" 6061 aluminum today and it kept the bit cool and clean. Also worked well when tapping those same holes. Best part is you don't get any nasty smoke when drilling or milling steel like you do with oils or bad stuff like clear cut.

I'm not a cool kid on any tube nor any block and I have never and will never take anything for any of my reviews, they are always 100% honest and legit. You'ld be amazed at some of my 1 star reviews that never get published. Me thinks the sellers approve the reviews not independent amazonians. But what do I know? So I'm just a tinkerer. Always throwing crap together that just works or fixin stuff. So from that perspective, this stuff is the shiznitz. I have all kinds of cutting oil, all kinds of tap magic, including the kind for aluminum. And sometimes nothing at all, e.g. working with copper, copper is gummy, in a league of it's own, I just do it dry and use forming taps. Just kinda push it out of the way. Much prefer zinc, and red or yellow brass. My favorite tap magic for steels has been the extra thick. Not anymore. Forget the hype, just get some and try it. I like how it clings. Don't water it down, let it cling. Clings like tap magic extra thick, even better. I was having a difficult time taping a certain piece of stainless steel. I could drill it just fine with just some normal tap magic or extra thick, my taps (multiple) weren't cutting it. Literally. Including two new ones I just bought from mcmaster carr (my heros) so they are good, very good. I don't think this particular stainless was good mind you, probably just the opposite. Not like other stainless I have drilled and tapped. Good taps just didn't like to cut it dry or with tap magic. Then I tried this stuff. WOW what a diference. Perfect 1/4 NPT taped hole. So piece was locked in a vice in the micromark, drilled the hole, slow speed and feed great big long corkscrew shaving then chucked the tap for absolute perfect alignment, started tap by hand turning the chuck then took out of mill vice and used T handle and bench vise. Done that a bunch of times with other stuff and other size holes and never a problem. Purr Fect every time. Only difference was this particular stainless steel item. :shruggs shoulders This water based goop simply worked when tap magic didn't. I haven't tried it on other materials I just know it worked on this air quote 304 made in China part when others didn't.

Used it . Hadto drill some 5/8 holes with my mag drill and used this oil. Like there was no smoke or foul smell. Seemed to work pretty smooth to.

My go-to cutting fluid for decades has been Tap Magic Extreme which works very well. However, it does have some somewhat toxic chemicals in it and is pretty messy to use, especially with drill bits and hole saws since they fling the oil all over, which stains many surfaces and is a pain to clean up. Also, a solvent is needed to clean up the oil. I saw several YouTube machinists I follow have switched to using Anchorlube so i bought a bottle to try out. I didn't notice any significant difference when manually tapping holes but clean up was easy with soap and water with no need for solvents. Also, the Anchorlube, being a light paste, didn't run like Tap Magic would. Where anchor lube really shined for me was when drilling in aluminum. It seemed a little more effective than Tap Magic preventing chips from fusing to the drill bits but the big difference was it didn't get flung nearly as much as Tap Magic would have been. Again, clean up was much easier. The only place Tap Magic was superior to Anchorlube was when using it to keep files from getting loaded up when filing aluminum. I could use an aerosol solvent, such as contact or electrical cleaner, to quickly clean up the file but the Anchorlube had to be cleaned with soap and water and a wire brush since it is stickier.

This stuff is great! Doesn’t drip and make a mess when using your drill press. Was using tap magic but this is so much better

Seems to work very well for boring (with a hand drill) and tapping/cutting threads into 6061 aluminum blocks. It is kind of messy to work with, but it's water-based (and soluble, no oil), so it's still easier to clean up than an oil-based cutting fluid might be. I found that it didn't really smoke when I was using it, but I was going at low speeds. The bottle says that it's nontoxic according to OSHA standards, which is nice--I would definitely recommend checking whether it's safe to rinse this stuff down the drain, though! My only gripes are that if you're using this undiluted, you go through it pretty fast, (or maybe I was using too much and didn't know what I was doing), and if you don't clean it off your drill bit after using, the dried residue can be kind of annoying to clean off. Caveats of my review: I haven't done any comparisons of it against oil based cutting fluids in terms of the final results, though. It's kind of viscous, so the tailings do get mixed in with it as you work, but I guess the easiest way around that would be to dilute it with distilled water (depending on your application). I have no idea how well this stuff would work on a lathe or a mill.

So much nicer than using oil. So much easier to clean up. It's a liquid, but it doesn't spread all over the place. And it collects a decent amount of gunk shaving. Quick and easy to wipe off with a cloth.

Smells less carcinogenic than the other oils ive had the pleasure of smelling burn. Stays put on the drill bit very well, even after getting hot. Absolutely makes a difference.
