Pretty decent after a lot of setup work

*by D***H on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 26, 2018*

I've had mine for about a year and a half. I bought it because I wanted a tenor banjo that I could tune to the GDAE Irish standard, which ports over from mandolin fairly easily aside from the longer scale of course. Speaking of which, I do wish I had gone with a 17 fret banjo because 19 frets is quite a stretch finger wise. Still, probably good for me to get used to it.When I initially received it it was of course nowhere near playable condition...to be expected for an instrument this cheap. The hardest part about getting it playable was straightening the neck since the base, which sits against the rim/pot, was cut very poorly and didn't sit perpendicular against the pot/rim. This of course meant that the strings did not run parallel with the neck unless I moved the bridge way off center towards the treble string side. After some trimming and shimming of the neck I was able to get the neck perpendicular. Then I was able to do the standard action and bridge setup. Now it plays and sounds nice. My only major complaint is that it looses tuning pretty easily and can be difficult to dial in. If it had a second coordinator rod that would probably help a bit but this also speaks to the cheapness of the tuners.Anyway, if you know how to work on instruments this is a good one for the price.

    Good for the price

I bought this banjo a few months ago when it was selling on amazon for around $150. Since I had no experience with any type of banjo, I figured I would buy the cheapest one so as to avoid any signifigant loss if it turn out not to be my thing. It's difficult to know how I would feel if I had paid the current going price of $290, but four stars is my overall rating considering the price that I paid. The only major flaw I've found it the workmanship is that the neck of mine sits a little crooked against the resonater. It's probably ajustable, but I've found that the less I try to "improve" cheap instruments, the better. Other than that, It seems to be a decently made instrument, with a good sound and quality components. Pros: It's cheap, comes with a gig bag, and stays in tune very well. Cons: It has no armrest.

Great 19 fret tenor banjo for the price

*by T***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 24, 2019*

This is a great 19 fret tenor banjo for the price. It has really great tone. Once the head is tightened and the bridge is set up, it plays well. The tuners are cheap which is to be expected for the price. The neck is longer than a 17 fret Irish tenor (obviously) which makes it more difficult to play due to the longer stretch.
