I ordered this because I have a lot of guns that I needed to bore sight and zero scopes on
So I looked a lot at different products available on amazon and finally set on this one and ordered it along with targets and staple gun and shooting rest and a nice laser bore sighter, everything got here in time for a shooting outing I promised to take my nephew on, except the shooting rest which I had to delay the outing waiting on the shooting rest so I had to buy a different one locally that wasn't as feature packed as the one I ordered for the shooting trip... Anyway I have a lot of firearms and I needed to sight them all in and bore sight the scopes and lasers and other sighting accessories. So we finally had everything needed for the shooting outing so we loaded everything up and headed to a remote area with nice backstops that was safe to set up and shoot, the day before the shooting trip I assembled the shooting stand and familiarized myself with it and it all went together fine and seemed pretty sturdy and adequate for the job, as we were getting ready to leave home the wind started really picking up a lot but I had hoped it would be a lot less at our shooting location, well it was just as bad if not worse, I'm talking about at least 15 to 20 MPH winds so setting it up in our original location was impossible so we used a U shaped high gravel mound that was kind of enclosed on three sides but the wind was still pretty stout, but we were able to set it up and even with the large target backing board to catch wind it stayed upright with the stabilizer mounted on the bottom and we found two rectangular cement filled plastic weights someone else had left behind to place on the front and back parts of the stabilizer so it was in the ground pretty good and the weights kept it from blowing over in the heavy wind. I used the center panel of the target backing for the laser bore sight target and then the left and right panels for the glow shot high visibility targets which were about 12"x18" or something like that and there was plenty of room for all three targets, I actually could have put a third glow shot target where the laser bore sighting target was at after I finished the bore sighting so there's lots of room for three large paper targets to be mounted... I had to use excessive staples to keep the targets on the backing board because of the heavy wind which also made the laser bore sighting a bit of a challenge... We used it for the initial Laser bore sighting and then we went to live rounds and started with .223/5.56mm to 7.62x52mm .308 rounds and then .22, .40, and 9mm for the first bit of shooting and the backing held up pretty well, I think my daughter had one or two low stray rounds where one .22 round went through the plastic storage compartment on the plastic stand and one or two that went through the plastic clips that go on the top and bottom of the backing board that keep the target backing from folding, oh yeah the backing has two folding points so it takes up less space when stored and there are four plastic 4" clips that keeps the board pretty steady.. So I might need to replace the backing board after another shooting trip or two and the plastic clips too maybe? Overall this is a pretty good setup and survived the first couple hundred assorted rounds we sent through it with only minor damage to the stand itself, also the hole through the small storage compartment actually didn't break the plastic, it made a small hole that actually looks like the self healing targets so the hole isn't big enough to compramise the compartment and luckily there was nothing really in the compartment and it is still functional.... Other then the couple stray bullets and the backing board being a little ate up from all the bullets fired through it I could still take it out for a few more outings and it should still hold up as good as it did for the first outing and hopefully there will be lots less wind next time I go out shooting but if it is windy I know it'll still stay upright as long as i can find makeshift weights to place on the cross stabilizer because withput the extra weight its not as sturdy and secure, I would recommend this item to anyone who wants to do light to medium volume of shooting of various caliber ammo and for the price you really can't beat this setup and its made pretty well and if not abused should hold up for a lot of shooting trips, with the exception of the target backing board that would need replacing after a few outings but other then that it should stand up to normal usage very well PS: one slight problem I did notice and slipped my mind is that there is a small metal clip on fork that is the bottom center support for the target, when I assembled it at home to familiarize myself with the stand, the clip stayed put and had no problems but when I reassembled it at the shooting site it just wouldn't stay put, no matter which way I clipped it back onto the stand it just kept falling off or popping off no matter what I did so I luckily had some 2" wide packing tape that I looped around the clip and taped it to the stand which kept it in place but this is a problem that could have stopped me from using the whole setup without the bottom center target backing support because it keeps the backing board from being blown off or folding or whatever else but without this lower backing support with the provided backing board you won't be able to keep the backing board mounted to the stand setup so remember to take tape or some other material to secure this part to the stand because without it your screwed and I was lucky I took the tape as a backup to the staple gun for holding the targets onto the backing board... It kind of sucks that the whole setup relies on this one small piece of metal to keep the backing board mounted to the stand and is the one improvement I would suggest.. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@UPDATE@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ So ok I took my nephew and a friend of his shooting again and we of course used this shooting stand again but it's done for now after this last shooting trip, a couple of stray .223/5.56mm and .308/7.62x52 rounds took out the target backing metal support rods and they clipped the metal rods like a hot knife through butter so unless I can order new target board support rods I'm going to need to order a whole new setup, but even of I do end up replacing it with the same or different model stand its pretty cheap and I got part of my money out of it in use, I'm debating whether or not to buy this same model again or if I should try a different setup altogether? So if your going to let others shoot at this setup make sure they are only hitting the target backing board because two stray rounds hitting the metal rods that hold the backing board its ruined and cannot be used anymore so be warned its possible to completely ruin this stand even if one bullet hits one rod because it needs both rods and the bottom center support to hold the backing board and the targets BC BC

Handy Little Target Stand for the Price
For the price, it is what it is.... It's a handy little target stand... I have used it to sight in a 17 hmr up to a 300 win mag with no problems. I wouldn't use it for a shot gun, 458 socom or any other hand cannon. Just get some targets you like, some clothes pins, a range finder and you can sight in or shoot targets to your hearts content. The replacement boards are cheap and I was amazed how well they held up, much better than card board. I am one to look at the negative reviews when I shop on Amazon, and I really do not understand the negative point when it comes to this stand. If you want a heavy stand spend the money, and one negative review said it was made cheap, heavy, poorly engineered and difficult to put together (I really do not understand that one). I have been using this stand for over two years and well over 3000 rounds with no problems. It's convenient, light, well built for the money and it works. I am buying my second stand....

Good targets at a good price
A very sturdy target. I ordered two of them. My grandson and I set them up today for some target shooting. The targets held up very well. Better than I expected. There was a good breeze blowing and the targets barely moved. We did run into a bit if an issue on both targets. One side of the pivot arms went into place easily, but not the other. We managed to get the pivot arms into position after I used a knife to trim some of the plastic away. Not very pleased with the center target supports. One came in bent and couldn't be used. When we were done I was able to bend it into position, but with this issue coupled with the problems getting one supporting arm, J can't give it 5 stars. Still, this is an outstanding target. Not sure how long the backer board will hold up, but I i tend to save a few Amazon boxes and am quite sure those will make a very adequate substitute. Would definitely recommend and they are reasonably priced.

This is the most versatile, well engineered HQ target stand ever... also a great value
Much more than I expected - fantastic fit and finish made from high grade materials - heavy duty plastics and metal where needed to add strength and longevity - this is truly a well made stand - I knew immediately when I picked it up to assemble - it surprised me when I lifted it out of the box - it has an unexpected weight to it. Even the plastic parts are heavy duty and substantial - I love that Caldwell used metal where metal was needed and their plastics are no cheaply made lightweight junk we find so often now-a-days- it has weight and strength. The function of this stand is unbelievably versatile - it can be set up many different ways from sticking the metal legs into the ground (they even thought of a way to use your leg and foot to push those metal rods deep into dense soil - really intelligent time & strength saving engineering, there are several positions and mounting options - for light duty shooting, I was able to attach the legs in such a way that I was able to take this heavy duty stand and wedge it into the frame and links of a chain-link fence -so that the target support remains perfectly vertical and stable for my .177 gauge pellets. The integrated storage feature is also well thought out piece of product engineering and perfect to store the parts of the stand that u r not using depending on what mounting configuration you choose - and there are several options that use non, some or all of the available high quality parts that come with the stand - having this storage prevents loosing or misplacing parts - enough room to store everything that comes with the target stand - so no loose parts when traveling to your favorite shooting area - the larger parts are either attached to the stand and folder out of the way for carrying (no sharp or potentially dangerous parts sticking out) and the smaller parts that you are not using for your setup are easily and securely stored in a robust storage compartment with a sure lock system, not some flimsy plastic cover that falls open whenever it wants to - this one clicks and locks firmly, yet its easy to open when u need to get in there. Finally - the target backerboard is amazing - a lightweight but strong material - the entire stand including the backerboard are weatherproof, rain, wind, snow, midday summer sun - doesn't seem to affect the parts used to make this stand. It goes great with the SplatterBurst targets whether you stick them on or like I did Mount 2 large body targets side by side and filled in blank spaces with 4 Bullseye targets - perfect fit due to the extra large backer board that can be mounted vertically or horizontally to fit your target size / shape I accidently left it outside during a monsoon rainstorm and a month later out first major snowstorm - Acted as if nothing happened through both storms Highly Recommended Highest Quality at a tremendous value - this target stand will last for years easily and easy to pack-up and carry/travel - collapses to easy to manage size and AGAIN no worry about loosing the few parts that allow for the versatile mounting options. chris Chris

does a good job
I have to say, while I was initially suspect as to how useful this target stand would be, I find it to be quite easy to set up and use and the portability makes it ideal. While it comes with a plastic sheet that you can fold out to insert into the arms and affix a paper target, I realized that after a little use that plastic sheet would become useless, having been pierced by umpteen bullet holes. So now I use large sheets of cardboard - actually one side of a larger moving box made of corrugated board - as these are easy to find and cheap (fi not free, by scrounging around at the local store). My only (minor) complaint is that one of the side arms is difficult to insert and later remove - the metal arm itself is fine but I believe it has to do with a minor flaw in the plastic base's molding, where the holes don't line up as precisely as they should. But it's not a big deal - still highly recommended.

Easy to assemble
Good product and easy to assemble. The ground is hard where I live so I drilled holes in two old pieces of wood to fit the legs in. Worked perfect.

Perfect target stand for shooting any type of ammunition
The Caldwell Ultimate Target Stand is a very well designed product. I was looking for a target stand that would be sturdy enough to use regularly while compact enough to fit in the back of a Jeep with a lot of other gear. I decided to give the Caldwell stand a try and it was everything I was looking for. When it comes to the compact size, everything that is needed fits inside the main confines of the stand itself. The stand includes clips that hold your target backer at the folds. These clips attach your target backer to the metal rods that are included with the stand. The clips work to prevent any possible bending of your target backer. These clips are easily stored inside a compartment that is within the stand itself. Thanks to this design, you won't have to worry about losing your clips when transporting the stand. The metal rods that actually hold up the target backer also fit in grooves that are molded into the stand. The only thing that cannot be transported in the stand itself is the cardboard target backer. However, this is light and easily folded to fit anywhere. Functionality of the Caldwell Ultimate Target Stand is superior to any stand I have used to date. The material the stand is made out of is a hard, sturdy plastic. The stand also has two stakes that go into the ground, and a cross block that stabilizes the target when it has been inserted into the ground. This design allows this target to hold up even with mild breezes. I have not tried the target in strong winds, but I would not recommend doing so. It feels as though the stand itself would hold up with minimal movement, but the target backer is still just made of cardboard. Thus, it is susceptible to strong winds. One important point of emphasis is the life of the included cardboard target backer. So far I have put approximately 1000 rounds through my target backer and it is still very usable. When it does come time to replace the backer you have two options. If you are like me, you will want to use the exact target backer that is included with the stand. Luckily this can be found online rather cheap. I purchased a 2 pack for $7. Alternately, any normal cardboard will work just as well. If you like to shoot bottles and cans you will want to purchase 2 of these target stands. Caldwell made these targets so that their inner base can accept a 2x4. Therefore, with two of these stands you can forego the target backer completely and just slide a 2x4 through each of the two stands. Then set up some bottles and cans and you are all set. I have zero negative comments to make about the Caldwell Ultimate Target Stand. It has exceeded my expectations ever since I purchased it. Simply put, this target does exactly what it should do. The Caldwell Target Stand provides a sturdy base that you can attach your target to and pump 1000's of rounds of ammunition at.

Nice but mine was damaged and missing spike covers.
I like the stand. I gave the product 3 stars for now because the backboard was damaged on both ends which made it impossible to attach the Included plastic pieces ment for stability. I ended up using duct tape but now I can't fold it up for storage. Ill order a new backboard and then update my review. The product was supposed to come with spike covers but I guess mine fell off before it was boxed. Other than these two issues, I like it. Easy to set up and disassemble.

Why build a wooden target when this solves all your problems
Excellent target for use at the range. High quality plastic and quite durable. Reasonably priced and comes with a white board you can use to put targets on. Once you shoot out the white board, you can out cardboard and use that as a replacement backer for targets after. I've done this with no problems. Target also has nice spikes for going into the earth and nice covers for the spikes when transporting the target (so you don't impale anything in your car, or yourself). The stand itself has taken several accidental bullets and the metal / plastic holds up well. My only complaint with this thing is it takes a little time to figure out how to set up and the middle stabilizer beam was too tight to mount on the target. I had to use pliers to fix it a bit, but it works well without the middle beam too.

Great for the Caldwell portable target stand
Bought these for the Target Stand and they are great. I've not worn out the first set of target backings yet and I've now put over 150 .22 through them. The plastic honeycomb structure means it keeps it's rigidity for a long time. Good value.
