The ring makes removal much easier. I love this thing.Long version: This was my first menstrual cup. I am a long-time pad user, switched to cloth pads a couple years ago, but even those would leave my skin irritated after some time. Never liked tampons, but I decided to try out the cup. Glad I did.I can sleep naked while on my period, which is the absolute best. And I don't even have to use backup pads/liners. The cup truly makes me all but forget I'm on my period, outside of the bathroom. Cramps still happen some but they aren't as bad. And since the cup seals everything up and collects rather than absorbs the blood, there's no more of that "squish" feeling when blood comes out (like when you stand up after sitting for a long time).I did not find the learning curve to be that bad, and it did not take me long at all to get the hang of using it (inserting, removing/emptying).FYI about this specific cup: THE RING IS FOR ASSISTING WITH REMOVAL, not to be relied on alone for removal. It's not like the Flex cup where the ring is attached to the side of the cup and lets you pull it out like a tampon.That being said, I found that the ring on this cup is awesome for two reasons. First, it really does help with removal. My understanding of most cups is that you have to hold the stem then slide your finger up inside to break the seal. With the ring, you do the same thing, but just loop a single finger inside the ring rather than using an additional finger to grasp the stem. Secondly, I have not tried a cup with a stem, but I imagine it might uncomfortably poke some people. The ring is round, and the material soft, so it doesn't do that which should make it more comfortable.The mini size is great for light to medium flow days. The only issue I had with it was in using it overnight on a heavy flow day. I woke up to it having overflowed. This was my mistake, as I needed to get the larger one got heavy flow days.
