I recently tore my Achilles during a soccer match and bought this in advance of my surgery (sadly, I've already gone through this whole process with the other leg, at a different soccer match, 4 years ago). I'm 6' and 260-270 lbs, depending on the alignment of the moon and how easily I can obtain tacos. Just used this bench for the 4th time, today, and had a whole leg bend out from under me. Fortunately I still had my bad leg outside of the tub and I was able to (painfully) half-grab the edge of the tub with the inside of my knee. My partner had to help me get out of the whole situation (I pity her lower back). So, to answer your question, the maximum weight is definitely less than 270lbs. **Q: instructions say use thumb screws. but none are in the box! does it come with thumb screws?** A: mine came with screws that had large plastic wing's (for want of a better word)... making it very easy on the fingers to screw the legs into tje seat. The fact that it is made up of plastic, stainless steel and aluminum ensures that it will be rust free. The plastic seat with drain holes is comfortable to seat on. The built-in handles is a very nice safety feature; and the adjustable height makes this shower chair very versatile. I wish that this chair also has a built-in slot for holding a shower head.
