one of the best sci-fi TV shows of the eighties
Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell had a great series in the late eighties. You never know what decade or character Scott Bakula will play in a particular episode. I have loved every episode of the series. It is as good, or better, than any of the other Universal shows, like Magnum P.I., Columbo, or Rockford Files.

Good looking presentation but flawed.
A classic 90's Science Fiction series, "Quantum Leap" remains a fun and often thought provoking series. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) develops a time machine that can allow him to travel but is limited to his own lifetime. The other limitation is that Sam leaps into the body of the person he is replacing during a given period and they, in turn, end up in Sam's time in a "waiting room" where an associate of Sam's named Al (Dean Stockwell) keeps an eye on him/her as they occupy Sam's body. What makes the show distinctive is that it is as much character driven as it is about the science fiction. The plots are well written and there's a believable amount of conflict. My favorite episodes are two that involve Lee Harvey Oswald where Sam replaces someone who knows Oswald and, later, he replaces Oswald (this was inspired by writer/producer Don Bellasario who knew Oswald when he served in the military). The series looks pretty good. It's clear no restoration went into the series visual aspects. Some of these are the syndicated versions of the shows meaning the episodes have been trimmed. The leaps at the end of the episodes give that away. The series has speckles and dirt (particularly during scenes involving visual effects) visible. Clearly there wasn't a restoration done for the show but it looks improved compared to the DVD transfers (which probably had the same source). These are not upscaled. These have the original music from the episodes for kudos for both. The audio is Ok--dialog is usually clear but there is lack of depth & definition. Is it better than the original broadcast versions? Absolutely. It could benefit from a remix however.Extras? This is Mill Creek. While they have gotten better about including special features from other sets, that isn't the case here. The Australian Blu-ray release included the Scott Bakula interview and a couple of other special features. None of them were included here (although they were on the original Blu-ray first season two disc set). The packaging is downright bizarre with multiple discs piled on top of each other in two disc case holders. It's not the best design and for a couple of bucks more, I have the feeling fans would have been fine with multiple holders for multiple discs. The outer cardboard case is a flimsy but has nice graphics. There are no subtitles for the discs which, given the older age of the fans, doesn't exactly make sense. The show looks decent (although it's not what I would call cutting edge presentation) with Ok audio. For the price, it's a nice set but I would have preferred a bit more care be taken and NOT including the DVD special features was just cheap. So should you spring for this set or the UK release? The UK release is evidently region b locked. It does have some special features (interviews with Scott Bakula and the late Dean Stockwell but it does have an audio drop out that occurred during the transfer. The UK release features the episodes stretched over more discs allowing more breathing room and less compression artifacts. It’s kind of a wash.

Classic Series Gets a Much-Needed Upscale
I presume if people are looking at this, they are familiar with the series so I won't get into a review of the show itself, but will focus on a very brief review of the product.I had my concerns going into this because Mill Creek, though famed for giving us the option to get physical copies of rare shows, is not known for the care they put into their products. This one, however, shows that they did put some effort in. The blu ray remastering is pristine on this. What little grain there is, comes from the fact that it is an 1990s TV series. The picture, however, is sharp and clear, and the sound is great. Sadly, it has not been given a 5.1 surround sound treatment; it's the same stereo sound you remember, but it is crisp and clear. They also maintained the origianl 4:3 aspect ratio, which is a good thing. Masking to 16:9 could have been a disaster. If I have one complaint here, it's that this is a truly bare-bones release. There are zero commentary tracks, no documentaries, no interviews, no behind-the-scenes footage, no deleted scenes. That's disappointing, given how beloved the show is among its fan base. Still, it's a worthwhile purchase with a gorgeous transfer at a good price.

Sound sync is a little kaka...
Firstly, this is a fantastic show. And it looks clear and sharp in HD (except some effects shots in the last series which are of a slightly lesser quality). But there's a recurring issue with the audio being fractionally out of sync with the picture. Characters' lips will move before any sound emerges etc. It comes and goes (sometimes within the same episode) and is easily overlooked, but depending on how sensitive you are to these things it can spoil the enjoyment somewhat.

Quantum leap Blueray boxset
I've put off getting this boxset for years and have recently started looking for it again. But the price elsewhere put me off, Amazon's price made me buy it.Ordered Thursday afternoon and it was delivered Friday pm.So 4 episodes in and glad I've finally purchased it. The blu-ray versions picture quality is very good and better than I remember it when it was shown originally on television, ok it's in 4:3 format but it's still sharp and colourful. All 5 seasons are there and around 76 hours of viewing to look forward to. Just remember it's more episodic that modern TV programmes and it only has a simple story arc in comparison to modern television shows, but they did introduce one or two things later into it's run. Featuring the Evil leaper, jump back home. But the most memorable episodes featured Jimmy. Trying to not give spoilersAnyone into science fiction or classic television should get this. Glad I have finally bought it.

Great Product.. But No Subtitles
I think this is a great package.. but as my girlfriend is not a native English speaker, some subtitles are needed.... I could not believe there were none at all .. in any language (what about people with hearing issues?)... and the Audio Options are only in English... For this I am disappointed.. but there is nothing to be done.... nothing bad apart from that... all else perfect!

Incredible series. A 'must-see' for everyone
One of the best series ever produced. A delight in blu ray, especially as all the original music and songs have been restored. (M.I.A isnt M.I.A without Georgia).Only compliant is that some episodes have poor audio synchronization. This was especially evident in the first half of season 2. This is a technical error with the post processing of the format, so won't be resolved with a replacement.Otherwise, aside from a lack of special features, this is an incredible show that is a must see for everyone and deserves high praise.
