Woodlink Going Green Platform Bird Feeder Model GGPLAT

I am very happy with this feeder, which I have had for about a month now. It is sturdy and very well-made. I like the fact that it is plastic and not wood, as I think it will last longer. It is well-balanced and when it swings in the wind, it does not tip over. Rain water drains through the screen, but I still dump the seed out after a rain, to avoid molding and sprouting. When I want to clean out the empty hulls, it is easy to tip it over and the hulls fall right out. It attracts lots of birds, especially cardinals, who prefer to perch on it rather than any kind of closed feeder. I am thinking of buying another one of these feeders. Update #1: It is now May and I absolutely love this feeder. I am back to buy another one. It attracts an amazing variety of birds, including a red-headed woodpecker and some rose-breasted grosbeaks. This morning, a house finch parked its baby in the feeder and just kept stuffing food into the little one! I have another kind of hanging feeder right next to it, but the birds will use that only if they can't squeeze in on the platform feeder. The squirrels love it, too, but eventually they get full and let the birds eat. It still looks great and is easy to maintain. Squirrels are not tempted to chew it, as it is open and they can get to the seed. Update #2: I have had this feeder for almost a year now (actually have 2 of them), and I cannot say enough good things about it. It has remained sturdy and shows very little signs of wear. The squirrels do not chew it, thank goodness. I do need to hit the screen with a hose once in a while to clear out some of the seed gunk that eventually settles on the screen. I get an amazing variety of birds every single day. Yes, the squirrels hog it in the morning, but then they apparently go nap for the afternoon, and leave the birds in peace. It is very easy to keep clean, empty and fill. This is absolutely my favorite feeder for the variety of birds I can enjoy watching from my kitchen window. This winter, I have seen so many of my favorite birds: the red-headed woodpecker (and his mate), nuthatches, titmice, chickadees, cardinals, and so many more. For some reason, the cowbirds are in love with it, too, and they gather in groups on it. I call it the "Cowbird Coffee Klatch" when they show up. Update #3: 12-14-2019 I am still extremely happy with these feeders. They are incredibly sturdy! I have had my original one for over 7 years, and my other one for about 6 years. Both still look great and are constantly used by the birds in my yard. No squirrel has ever attempted to chew on this feeder. There is no sign of rot, and even the screen in the bottom is still holding up amazingly well. These feeders were worth far more than I paid for them.

I bought this feeder in October 2019. It's been out and in use every day since then and is still in fantastic shape. It's super easy to keep clean, and the birds love it. It's their favorite feeder. It's also great in cold weather since it's made of plastic and doesn't get as cold as metal. In fact, the birds won't go near the metal feeder when it's super cold outside. Only downside is the seed will get wet in the rain/snow. I have a protective dome over the top of the feeder, but it doesn't do much to keep the rain out. I use 100% black oil sunflower seeds, so it's not as big of a deal as with other seed types.

6 Years Update! We're going in to our 7th year with this feeder and it is STILL in excellent condition with very little color fade. Still the favorite of all our birds!!! Original review below: We have 6 different feeders and this is by far the most popular. Not that this should be your only feeder. It's all about presentation. The pros on this feeder are that it gives Cardinals the room they like to land. Construction is 1st class and these materials should last many seasons. It is also very easy to clean. I feed a variety mix of black sunflower, safflower, shelled sunflower, dried fruit and peanuts (dry-roast unsalted). I set a little jar lid of thistle in the middle and the gold finches come in and just sit and eat. Titmice will eat nothing but peanuts until they are all gone. Cardinals like the safflower more than any of the others. Even the perchers, nuthatch and woodpeckers, will land here for a bite and then fly off to their tree to eat. Woodpeckers like dried cherries and dried cranberries and will be the 1st to grab those. About presentation, buy several different styles. Finches love the tube with thistle. I have 2 wire mesh cylindrical feeders with multiple perches. Titmice, nuthatch, chickadee and the woodpeckers love those because they can either perch or cling. The nuthatch will always cling to the mesh and eat upside down. Don't forget a suet cage. The Downey woodpecker spends more time there than anywhere. I will also heartily recommend the Audubon Signature Harvest Cherry mix. It generally runs about $2 a pound at the box stores. I mix with additional black sunflower and add dry roasted unsalted peanuts. Be sure to provide a source of water. If there is any con that I can relate it is that this feeder provides adequate space for Blue Jays. They can be pigs at the feeder and the other birds tend to scatter when the Jays land. Oh well. They are pretty, just voracious eaters.

I finally found a sturdy, attractive bird feeder that my cardinals and woodpeckers love!! We all know that cardinals prefer to eat off the ground and that cardinals are quite shy. I wanted a bird feeder that the majority of our birds could use. This feeder is the best I’ve found for this purpose. The cardinals will eat from this feeder along with 3 types of woodpeckers, blue jays and even our morning dove. I love that it’s sturdy, easy to clean and the bottom doesn’t retain water. A big plus is it’s made from recycled water bottles since repurposing is important to us. We use a baby wipe to remove any bird poop if one of the birds poops while eating. We use a dust pan brush to remove the birdseed husks. We hung it on a wrought iron shepherds hook which the squirrels were climbing up on to get to the seed. We oiled the pole with babyoil and now when the squirrels jump up onto the pole they just slide back down to the ground. Lol! We finally have a stress free bird feeding oasis.

Having great success with hummingbirds this summer, my wife and I were looking to start our "standard" bird adventure once they migrated away in early fall. We began with a hopper style feeder but were slightly disappointed, attracting predominantly white breasted nuthatches and tufted titmice. We decided to add a different style feeder that could accommodate not only a greater variety of birds but more birds at once, and to allow for some seed experimentation. Reading the other reviews on Amazon this feeder seemed like a great option and, even if unsuccessful, it is cheap enough to write it off. Well, thankfully it has been a resounding success thus far! So far visitors to the platform feeder have included... downy woodpeckers, red bellied woodpeckers, kinglets, purple finches, cardinals, blue jays, song sparrows, and of course the same nuthatches and titmice mentioned before. We are confident new ones will show up too, as we are only in week 2 of this hobby! The platform has held as many as 9 purple finches at once and seems quite stable and balanced. The drainage on the mesh is quite good and it is very easy to clean. You can put a ton of food in, or add little by little. I also used a small diagonal divider to test two separate types of seed to see who liked what best. In the spring we will be adding another pole with places for additional feeder styles, however I think we will find a place for a second one of these! Extremely pleased with the purchase.

Summer 2022 I’d like to add to my review these are well worth purchasing. I purchased these in late 2019. They’ve survived 3 winters & this will be 3 summers now. I clean the bottoms to keep the holes clear for drainage when necessary. My birds love them. 3 mourning doves happily sit on one & feed. The green has barely faded from the weather element. The hook remains intact with zero problems. I’ve had squirrels jump on them numerous times with no breakage. If you’re hesitant to purchase don’t be. These are feeders with genuine longevity. I did purchase another platform as I feed many birds & it was cheaper from another brand. This was a mistake. I’ve had it since early Spring & it’s worthless. This is the brand to buy if you are looking for a platform bird feeder! Again I highly recommend! October 2021- I purchased 3 of these in 2019 into the 2020 season. All three have survived all season elements especially the harsh winter season. They have held up wonderfully. The green has not chipped one bit & each one clearly drains any wetness that gets in the feeder. The birds love them. I couldn’t be happier with this purchase & thrilled with how long they have lasted! Definitely a purchase you won’t regret! I loved the 1st green platform bird feeder so I purchased a 2nd. I couldn’t be more thrilled & my birds love feeding off them. The hook attached to the feeder is very sturdy. I have no concern in it snapping off. It holds a fair amount of bird feed. The material is of a solid wood with a nice colored green which was spot on. Arrived in wonderful secure packaging. The feeder has a solid mesh type bottom which allows water to drain. This is one of its best features. They are very easy to clean. I’ve had up to 7-8 birds feeding off one at the same time. Such a joy to see. The price I paid was well worth what I received. I’ll purchase a 3rd in the future if needed. My Brother admired the feeder & purchased one for his birds. If you are a bird lover & love watching your birds feed I highly recommend you purchase the platform feeder or purchase as a gift for a bird lover. My birds just sit, stay & feed. It’s a wonderful sight! I also like how the feeder is created from 30 recycled milk jugs. The company is environmentally friendly which says a lot. Highly recommend!

It’s a large tray style birdfeeder that can hold up to 15 birds at a time. the base of it is a screen so that if it rains, the water just goes right through but the seeds stay in the tray. The birds absolutely love it! The construction is so well-made it is not wood. It is a composite material that does not rot and it’s not stapled. It’s screwed together. This is The third one of these trays that I purchased. The first one I purchased is still hanging and it’s about eight years old! I highly recommend this birdfeeder! And so do the birds!

Most durable. We live in a high wind area and it has been blown down a couple of times. No damage. Rain and snow; no effect. Deer sometimes come and eat out of it. I have seen it kicked, knocked down and thrown across the yard by the deer. It is still perfectly fine. We have multiple dove and multiple quail in it at one time. Have never had a bird feeder last like this.

I just started using this feeder. It attracts many birds, (some of which I don’t want at my feeder in the summer like Blue Jays, Red-winged blackbirds and grackles) because they clean out the feeder in a couple of hours. So I changed my feed to safflower seeds instead of sunflower seeds. What a difference!! The cardinals love it, so do grosbeaks, and doves. Now I see the male and female cardinals sitting together on the feeder, the male feeding the female! Usually they feed one at a time from traditional feeders. No grackles, black birds or blue jays either. They don’t like safflower seeds—bitter taste apparently! Love it!

I am very pleased with this bird feeder. Although it is not made of wood, it looks similar. The mesh bottom is a great idea for when it rains so the seed does not spoil. I am very happy with my purchase.

Our birds love this feeder. We get everything from Bluejays, Cardinals, Chickadees, Siskins and all sorts of other birds coming to it. It's very easy to use and clean. Looks great. Built very well. And does exactly what it's supposed to. Great purchase. :)
