STANDARD HORIZON USB-57B PC Programming Cable

Hard to find cable to interface with a recently bought a Yaesu FTA-250L air band transceiver. After figuring out how to put the radio on programming mode, I was able to make channel additions using the software on a computer. Handy when you need to add a lot of channels.

There isn't much you can say about a cable :-) However, it is well made and works as it should.

Made programming my radio effortless.

This cable doesn't have the threaded connector on the radio end of the cable and the Standard Horizon Technical Support said that without that type of connector they've seen connector alignment problems like this before. This cable might work for some radios, but it created communications errors between the programming software and the radio. The drivers were easily downloaded from the website, however I suggest finding an alternative solution for programming this radio. Waste of time and money for me.

This cable and its drivers work as intended. I cannot determine whether the cable is a factory item from Standard Horizon, or an aftermarket item from RT Systems. This could be important in other applications, and I was prepared to question things had the cable given me trouble. It did not. RT Systems, on its own, is an aftermarket supplier for many brands of radios needing a variety of programming cables and software. It is possible that Standard Horizon/Yaesu has contracted with RT Systems to supply this under the factory name. The box has Standard Horizon nomenclature all over it, as if it is a factory component. Inside, brochures and directions are marked RT Systems. No driver CD is included, but the correct driver software is available on a link to the RT Systems website that the literature describes. I successfully downloaded it. The end of the cable that fits the radio has an extended protrusion that accommodates the distance normally taken up by the threaded, waterproof cover on the radio housing. This extended length correctly places each ring of the plug where it's supposed to be. It's good that the cable plug is NOT threaded, because a user would then have to spin the radio or the cable to screw it into the housing. The length of the cable is a lot longer than I would have expected, not really a complaint, but the stiffness of the cable can push the radio over when you're arranging the setup with your computer on a workbench. Item is Recommended.

The USB-57B PC Programming Cable is great. Though you need a copy of the RT Systems software to use this item. Found it was easier to purchase the software and download direct from RT Systems. The cable that comes with the Yaesu FT-70D failed most of the time and didn't work properly... RT Systems is the way to go for programming your Amateur Radios!

The cable used to work great and it probably still does, but now that I've lost the software it's useless until I pay for the new version (5). I'm too poor to throw money at this problem right now and certainly less than amused with RT Systems' software policies right now..
