BOSS GX-100 Advanced Guitar Effects Processor

TL;DR- An amazing multi fx pedal that rivals many competing flagship processors in build and audio quality with ease of use. The GX-100 seems like a steal at this price point. It sounds amazing either running through an FRFR speaker or studio monitors. The tones are versatile and can cover a huge range of genres (yes, it chugs & djents). One con I noticed people saying is that some amps are not really modeled after anything. To me, this is a pro. I feel it allows for better creativity in creating a tone, as I dont have to waste time referencing. I dont have to worry about it sounding like a 5150, I just need it to sound good, bottom line. The quality of amps make up for the humble 23 available (3 of them are bass amps). Aside from the tonal quality, you can also run dual amps for more unique soundcrafting. The amount of effects available are quite staggering. The screen will only show you a handful of blocks, but most blocks have a "sub type" of each effect. For example the OD block has the OD-1, OD-2, Blues OD, CENT-OD, ect. Some say that the distortions sounds fuzzy, but as with anything that isnt $2000, youre gonna have to work for your tone, theres so many options to shape your amps and effects. I also recommend loading you OD or Distortion before the amp. I've seen this gets rid of that thin fuzziness and sounds more modern. If you're tech savy, the BOSS Tone Studio will help a lot in shaping these tones. You can connect via USB and go nuts on your tone shaping without messing with the screen. You can also use this baby as a recording interface. Im a bit new to the audio engineering side of things, but this thing is great for recording, it sounds awesome, and the latency is super low. The only bad thing I can say about that is that your effect cannot be changed post recording unlike with plug ins (ie. Neural DSP). Again im new to this recording stuff so there might be a way that I dont know about. The touchscreen is really cool. The response is lacking a bit but the construction is top notch, doesnt feel like ill crack it anytime soon. Speaking of construction, as others who reviewed before me, this thing is built like a TANK. Everything feels solid, the buttons are plenty and the grip on the the expression pedal is similar to the grip on skateboard. One last thing ill add is the ease of use. All processors have steep learning curves when it come to figuring out the buttons, sounds, and chain building. The GX-100 is one of the easier ones to figure out. Still a bit of work needed but a lot less than say... an axe fx or a Cortex.

Take your time to read, I hope to clarify some doubts you may have while thinking about buying this unit but long story short: Just do it (it worth every penny), and I'm going to tell you why. If you are looking for something that allows you to create your own sound and manipulate almost every aspect of it, literally, get this unit. Some people could feel overwhelmed with the settings at first, others will say its distortion or drive sounds doesn't sound well but let me tell you: they can sound really great, but it will require some time and patience until you get your ears used to how this unit sounds and learning to identify what to change/alter in every single thing you put in the effects chain. Try every knob, every setting, take a little break to give your ears some rest and sit back, our ears adapt fast to any simple variation to the sound. Not all the knobs will act exactly the same way in all amps, take your time and experiment with that too. I'm still working with the stock IRs; they can sound great enough to get almost everything and sometimes using the other included cabs rather than the amp original one could match even better (for my personal taste). Don't try custom IRs before you get a very good sound with everything that is included already, you might see yourself losing lots of time (and money) and still sounding like ars. otherwise. I have almost 20 years of experience dealing with some simple/complex units and some moderate analog pedalboards. Take your time, experiment, embrace some frustration at first until you train your ears to recognize what's affecting your sound and how can you get the sound you want. Learning to manipulate the unit is the easiest part, and even easier if you have used another Boss MFX before (I had the GT-10 6 years ago), but learning how to use it will take some time, be patient and try to find a good and almost as flat as possible reference to hear it (if you're setting it for line or direct) to be accurate. As I read some user comment in a YT video, use your ears... don't let names or references fool you and tie you. Remember that using patches created by others won't work even having the same equipment or guitar as everyone plays different. Some factory presets are ok but not as good to use them in a real situation, learn from them, see how they work and if you want, start creating from there although it's much better if you start from zero and just try some amps first. Also, if you think about flexibility, this can be a monster... whether you use it in manual mode or in memory mode you will be able to remap every single switch with even multiple functions at once. If something plug and play is what you're looking for, look for somewhere else... but if you're like me and you want to have the maximum control of your unit, get this thing.

This thing def lives up to the hype. Have it through a 6505 combo with a V30. The amp isn’t known for its cleans but the boss improves it substantially. I don’t stay in the clean channel very much however, mostly high gain with a 7 string with dimarzio titans. The noise gate is amazing, just as good as the boss ns and you can put one through the effects loop as well as in front of the amp. It’s nice to be able to switch channels on the amp with the boss. I can switch patches to where it changes to the clean channel On the 6504 and then use a high gain amp and IR through it for different heavy tones, then switch back to using the 6505 preamp with just effects on the boss. I could go on and on and on about all the stuff you can do. You can customize this thing to death it’s unreal. If you can imagine it, it can do it. I don’t use the looper much so can’t comment there. Even the built in tuner you can customize between 6 and 7 strings to literally any tuning you want. Yes it’s $600 but if this thing was $900 it would still be worth it. It’s the only pedal I’ll ever need and completely eliminated my clustered pedal board and sounds just as good I think better than individual pedals. A bold statement I know but boss absolutely nailed it with this thing. I spent hours watching videos comparing it to the helix hx, mooer, the pod go, and some others and the gx-100 is just the way to go. Love the touch screen, super easy to use, and comes with pc software if that’s your thing. Can even use it as an audio interface to record with. Or just grab some headphones and jam out on the couch without getting your neighbors involved. The stereo effects are down right addictive when jamming out on headphones. I have yet to find one complaint with this thing and guitar and amp aside it’s the single best thing I’ve ever bought for playing music.

The Boss GX 100 is so perfect for the worship team I play in. It gets all the little nuances that need to be recreated for that song. You can put amps, overdrives, reverbs, delays, oct, eqs, in any order, how crazy is that. It’s made for bass too, the Boss GX 100 has amps, overdrives, eq, made for bass setting. That’s awesome. There are 10 places to put a guitar or bass at. Adjust you instrument input settings not to peak red, save it to 1-10, weather it’s hot or low output instrument, and name it too. And it has a touchscreen that makes editing so simple. I am still getting use to the BOSS GX 100. It compact size takes so getting use to, I have hit the volume pedal down while pushing number 4 on the GX 100, oopsy Daisey. In case you don’t know by now, I love the Boss GX 100, I am done and tired of typing. The only bad thing is I’m completely deaf in my right ear, from birth, not loud music, and can’t hear the beautiful sounds this GX 100 creates in stereo, booo right ear.

I honestly wasn't expecting this to be as good as the more expensive brands like the Headrush and Line 6 so I was quite surprised at the tones it produced. The best way I can describe it is like this: Line 6 does the amp modeling pretty well but the amp feel suffers a bit, Headrush's amp modeling suffers a little but the amp feel is better than Line 6, whereas this pedal's amp modeling is probably the weakest but the amp feel is best of the three. The user interface on this isn't great, though better than previous GT pedals. Line 6 is better but you're not going to beat Headrush when it comes to user interface. The best thing about this pedal is that it feels like a real tube guitar amp. You won't get every model from the different amp manufacturers like the others but all the squeals and squeaks you can get from a real tube guitar amp, it's here, even through a PA system. In fact, I think it sounds better through a PA system than through a guitar amp once you tweak the settings. Like most manufacturers, the preset settings are horrible so don't judge the sounds from those. There's a lot of parameters on here so if you're a newbie to Boss products, you really need to read the manual several times over and check out the online videos from other users. I've had this for awhile now and put it through the paces so I've nailed the sounds exactly how I wanted but it does take some time. There's no 'Scenes' like Line 6 and Headrush, as it's pretty much old school style programming, but you can pretty much do anything you want. Obviously, it won't be able to do everything like the more expensive GT1000 but for the average player looking to customize their sound (like re-amping or combining two different amp sounds into one) and playing live, it'll more than get the job done. The effects are one of the best because, well, it's Boss. If you like any of their single effects pedals, you'll love this even more. One of my favorite things about Boss multi effects pedals is that you can use the preset stomp buttons to change the preamp sounds (clean to distorted for example) in the same preset and leave the other two control stomp buttons to turn on/off other effects and parameters. This gives the user a lot of flexibility since you don't have as many stomp buttons compared to the others. You just really have to go through the settings painstakingly to get the desired effect but the touch screen really makes a difference here. Sure, it's easier to just use the app on your computer but you never know when you'll need to tweak it live so I did everything on the pedal. The touch screen can be finicky at times though so you just have to be intentional in your finger motions. As for using external impulse responses, I didn't have much luck. Why? The parameters for the internal IRs can't be used for the external IRs. It doesn't sound bad if you use it, it's just very limiting so unless you can find a perfect one that can match with it, it's not worth it. Fact is, you won't need to search for IRs because this pedal sounds good. If you have the patience and you're willing to put in the time to really learn this thing, you'll be rewarded with incredible sounds. Otherwise, you'll be better off with the other brands. For my needs, it's perfect because I'm able to get real guitar amp sounds for relatively cheap so couldn't be happier!

Tired of that old, nasty, dirty pedalboard with all of those stupid chords and power strips? Constantly fiddling with wires and pedal positions? Take a chance on this product. My old pedal board is obsolete. Can literally produce any sound you want with the right patience and calibration. This is the future. I just take this to gigs now. Superior quality. I've been using it for over a year now. No issues with electronics, is metal framing so can take a beating. This board has changed my life. Welcome to the future of guitar, friend.

I really want this unit to fit my needs. I like the form factor and the ability to have such great control over effects and what switches and knobs do but here is the bottom line. The overdriven amps sound terrible. I have joined different groups online to get advice and see what others are doing and the fact is the OD sounds are just bad. I watched someone demo all the amps and mine just don't sound close to that good. I run it into the return of a Blues Cube Artist and this is supposed to provide a great sound. The amps are just fizzy sounding. The other effects I am fine with but if it can't produce a good amp sound there is no point to having the unit. My only regret is I waited to long to return it. I have not given up completely and still research to see if there is something else I can do to make it sound good. I don't normally write a negative review on anything but this was pretty expensive and my level of disappointment is really high. Lesson learned. When buying something this expensive go to a store and try it out if possible.

This pedal has been nothing short of awesome. BOSS makes great quality stuff and this pedal holds up to that.

I love this pedal. I also own an Boss ME-80 but comparatively this pedal produces a much clearer and richer sound that cuts through the mix - for all effects. I probably won't ever use all the features that this pedal has to offer. The interface is great and easy to use and given all the paramaters that you can tweek for every effect, you can spend hours developing a custom effect. There are a ton of reviews online so be sure to check them out and make your decision.

Hice la compra aprovechando un buen descuento y era importada. Todo muy bien, un artículo nuevo, el software venía actualizado, el empaque en buen estado. Y para quienes desconocen el procesador, es equipo es muy bueno, tiene un sonido superior a otros procesadores de boss, útil si lo que buscas es un buen sonido y un equipo compacto por qué a pesar de tener carcasa de metal es ligero y no muy grande.

INCREÍBLE Creo que es la mejor en su segmento, llego en perfecto estado y tiene todos los efectos necesarios. El único punto negativo hasta el momento es que el pedal de octavador no tiene la opción de octavas más agudas solo más graves. No mete white noise, la puedes conectar al PC o celular y es sencilla de utilizar.

Una belleza, suena bien salido del empaque conectado directo al PA, aunque un principiante puede perderse un poco al crear efectos nuevos la práctica y la sencillez del sistema lo hacen perfecto. Los materiales muy rígidos, se ven muy resistentes, tengo duda cuánto puede seguir funcionando el touch screen, pero de primera, es muy responsivo.

La pedalera está genial, tiene muchos efectos, la calidad de sonido es buena, los amplis incluidos son más que decentes y reaccionan de manera natural, solo toma un poco de tiempo configurarla para usar en vivo o para grabación, recomiendo editar el ecualizador global con el low cut en 80hz el hi cut en 10khz y jugar un poco con los medios, reduciendo un poco a tu gusto, usando un Q8 en low mid 315hz y hi mid 800hz, lo único malo es el spring reverb, no es muy bueno y cuesta mucho hacerlo sonar decente pero todo lo demás muy bueno
