desertcart.com: Escape from Asylum: 9780062424433: Roux, Madeleine: Books Review: great - Such a great read couldnโt put it down! Read in order so much better! Read asylum first which was great too! Review: My favorite of this series - This is the fourth and final book in the Asylum series and it was my favorite!! It follows a patient admitted in the late 60โs, so we get to see the infamous warden from the first 3 books in his own time - and all of the horrible experimental treatments he employed. Fantastic read!

Meet Patient Zero
โTo be Patient Zero meant losing himself, not to death, but to something much worse.โ I was in a reading by slump so decided it was time for a comfort reread. I chose the Asylum series. Read into that what you willโฆ Before we go to summer school with Dan, Abby and Jordan, we need to visit Brookline when its rooms were cells, not dorm rooms. This is Brookline the asylum. Trust me; you do not want to be here. โThis place โฆ Itโs not quite what it looks like. Itโs not what it seems.โ Itโs 1968 and Ricky is being dropped off by his mother and Butch at his third โretreatโ. Sure, there was the incident with Butch. Rickyโs not denying that, even if Butch had it coming. This is about more than that, though. This is about Martin. Homophobia is rife and weโre still decades away from people calling out conversion therapy for the horror show that it is. I remember that we all dreaded and feared the Warden but, after all of these years, the specifics were hazy in my mind. However, I never forgot that heโs an extraordinarily disturbed man with a god complex who should be a patient, not staff. โWhatever else he is, heโs also a butcher. A monster.โ For Ricky, the only good thing about Brookline is Kay. Sheโs also there for โtreatmentโ and I spent the entire book wanting to protect her. โYou know you and I are just different. Different isnโt sick.โ Iโd never seen a book that included found photos when I first read this series. I was absolutely fascinated turning the pages to discover new creepy images. I looked forward to rediscovering the photos this time around and was not disappointed. Iโd forgotten that we meet Dennis in this book and Iโve only just realised that Roger was first introduced here as well. The deeper you allow yourself to wander around in the underbelly of Brookline, the more rewarded youโll be. And more disturbed, too, by the depravity of those in power. I wish thereโd been details of everything that took place between Chapter 47 and the Epilogue. I need to know what Kayโs life looked like post Brookline. โIf we can survive in here, we can do anything.โ Content warnings are included on my blog.

A fun read
I enjoyed this story more than I expected; I finished it in just three readings. I've read many "Asylum gone Mad" novels and have to say it was my favorites. I liked the characters very much, especially the budding love story between Ricky and Kay.

This is a book one of the kids wanted it so we brought it for them. They read it and said it was enjoyable and thatโs good enough for me

Love this series! Read all of them. It has all the freaky elements you are looking for in a thriller mystery in an insane asylum.
