I bought these several weeks ago for sleeping. For years I've been using the cone-shaped foam style that you roll and insert in your ears. I used them because that's all I knew and they have the highest decibel protection. They are excellent really but argh! so frustrating! I can get them seated in one ear 9/10 with no problems. In the other ear it can take 15-20 frustrating minutes to get the thing seated so that sound doesn't "leak" in. Fast forward to two months back when I heard of custom molded ear plugs. Eh? What's that you say? I edged a little closer to that conversation. I hesitated because they seemed geared for shooters and the decibel protection is lower AND with this brand, I heard one YT reviewer talk about them being "hardened plastic" when finished. I couldn't imagine that would feel comfortable in the ear. Well, I bought, I molded, and I slept...delicious, undisturbed sleep! Yay!! And the legend of the gum-shew was born. One side of these things looks like a wad of bright pink bubble gum and the other side looks like a cashew. And so, gum-shew! Some things I like about these ear plugs: when the product arrived, I saw the manufacture date was just a few weeks before I received them; that seemed a plus as freshly produced putty should mix better and reduce any problems, I decided. I also liked that the product came together easily. I was worried that it would be very stiff and difficult to work with. But it was very soft, softer than gum even. I really like that the finished product is easy to insert and remove. You'd think this hard plastic would be hard to work with, but no, they are simple to use. It was easy to process the putty although I wish I had rolled it a bit before inserting, to give it a better shape inside the ear canal. One of the plugs has a nice symmetrical shape and the other looks more blob like. But both work! It's simple to pop them in before sleep. It takes maybe 5 minutes for them to 'heat' up and then they feel even more conformed to the ear. My major dislike is that they are uncomfortable when I'm sleeping on my side. Because they are hard plastic, that's just not pleasant to me. It's a minor thing and some folks may not mind it at all. Fortunately I mostly sleep on my back and once I'm deeply asleep, if I roll onto my side, I often don't notice that discomfort and unconsciously adjust around it. All in all, I really like these buds and I'd recommend them to others. I use earplugs because I have difficulty staying asleep. I can be easily awakened with ambient noises like the neighbor's dog barking or loud vehicles. Also my husband snores sometimes; it's not terribly loud but it's difficult to go back to sleep if I'm awakened by it. But with these gum-shews, I stay asleep and it's so so good to have a night of uninterrupted sleep! When wearing these gum-shews I can still hear most things and even converse with my husband next to me, but all the sounds are muffled, creating a lovely 'cone of silence' that makes it easy to fall asleep and stay asleep. I really value that these are sturdy, comfortable, easy to use and they work! Plus they are not so dense that I'm deaf to all sound--because I do want to hear if there are emergencies. These custom plugs are wonderful and worth it if you like sleeping in silence like I do!

I've been using Radians earplugs for a few years now. I work in the music business, and was tired of spending so much on disposable ear plugs. I didn't want to spend thousands on custom molds, and figured I'd give these a try. As ear plugs, they work well. Not the best, they only block about 25db (less than some, more than others, but enough to protect your hearing in a 100db concert). They are comfortable and reliable, they clean up easily with just a bit of soap and water. The second pair I used to make a set of in ear headphones. This worked very well, as pushing the in ear drivers into the ear as the Radians set up and then drilling a hole in the plug was successful. The earplugs were comfortable and sounded great, blocking out most ambient sound (perfect for airplanes.) Not only that, but they provided a tight, custom fit that stayed in my ear whatever I was doing for $15. You can't beat that. After using those pairs for a few years, the ear plugs started to lose their fit and the heaphones were breaking from cleaning the drivers, so I purchased another set. I had some left over from my first attempt, and tried to use that first. Well, after sitting for a few years, the putty would no longer set. It sat in my ear and was very difficult to remove. After several weeks, it still has not set, and I doubt it ever will. Obviously, Radians has a limited shelf life, and there is no indication in the product packaging or information to show this, other than a date stamp in the package. This could be dangerous, so double check the date stamp if you buy these. I made two more sets, another ear plug and another in ear heaset. Both work great. I've also used it for my bluetooth headset, and it's so much more comfortable and stable now, it's like a different headset. I recommend these ear plugs. Don't be afraid to purchase two sets and experiment to find the right fit for you. To all the people complaining about how expensive these things are for what you get: it's $15 for custom molded earplugs. Where else are you going to find that kind of deal? If the first set didn't work out, buy a second. You've still saved several hundred (if not thousand) dollars.

This kit works really well. I take hearing protection very seriously. My parents were both audiophiles, so I was the only kid who regularly wore ear plugs in the mosh pits, and I have maintained my full frequency range despite years of loud activities. I was very surprised by how easy they were to make and how great they fit. This dB reduction is significant (26) but it's less than the disposable 3m ones that I've used in the past, which I believe have a noise reduction of 32dB. I put one of each in alternating ears and then compared the noise reduction while wearing over the ear headphones. Both reduced the noise very well, but the 6dB difference is noticable. The disposable ones were slightly better at reducing the noise, but I do like that these fit so well in my ears without any effort and they don't end up in a landfill. I bought these for two uses: motorcycle wind noise and sleeping. They are plenty effective for blocking out noise for a light sleeper, 100%. For wind noise, they are very effective, and I will continue to use them, but I'm not an audiologist, so I can't say how important that 6db difference will be, long term. My only complaint is with how well these seal. If I had realized before I made them, I probably would have pinched the south side before they set, or stuck a tiny handle into the epoxy, or something. They feel very robust, and when you seat them in your ear canals you can feel them seal all the way from the inside out, but then it's like trying to peel up a sticker when you can't find an edge. If I had longet nails it might be easier. I've gotten better at it, but that's my one recommendation with these, once you get them all pushed into your ears, pinch them at the top before they set so you have a little place to pull when you want to take them out. Other than that, they're great. Excellent instructions and I like how bright and hard to lose the rest ones are.

The whole premise of the custom earplug for your headphones is nonsense. These don't even come close to comparing to regular run of the mill foam tips for your earbuds. For one, it's difficult to do this perfectly, but even if you do you have several issues. The part that goes into your ear canal has to be cut off, so now you just have an earbud sitting in the mold pointing into your ear canal, rather than being secured/attached to your actual ear canal. You lose bass response, and you lose passive noise cancelling. It's night and day compared to regular foam tips that I've been using for a couple years. Another con, these are big and bulky, much larger than they need to be. The whole premise of having all this bulk around you earbuds doesn't actually help anything. Would you rather have foam tip that you squeeze and insert into your ear canal, it puffs up and fills it 100% and tight. Or, would you rather have your entire ear with a mold inside it, but nothing in your ear canal? It feels like it's just going to fall out. You could get a pack of several foam tips for the price of this, and use them on multiple different earbuds. You can only use this custom mold for the earbuds you make them for, but why would you bother. I'm guessing most people that are doing this and raving about it have never used foam tips. Also, these were pink not red. I mean, you have red and white material, you mix it and it's pink, yet they are still selling it as red. All that said, I think these would be fine for making custom earplugs, you could probably make 2 sets, but they are a complete bust when it comes to earbuds which is why so many of us have bought them.

On the recommendation of an online community of musicians, I purchased these in attempt to make molds for earbuds that I use for in-ear monitors. I ordered two packages because I intended to try this with two sets of earbuds. With the first package, I used the entire mix for one set of molds, which is the intended amount when creating ear plugs. I didn't practice placing the earbuds beforehand, so I didn't quite get them directed into my ear canal. I learned two lessons. It would benefit me to not use the whole mix so that the earbuds don't have to displace so much material, and I should make sure I get the positioning of the earbuds correct so that the music doesn't come out muffled. With my second package, I divided the materials into fourths so that I would have two attempts per ear. This worked out much better on creating the molds and getting the earbuds positioned correctly. Now here is where the product did not live up to my expectations. It doesn't seem to block out sound all that well. While I was waiting for the molds to set in my ears, I could easily hear the television playing in the other room as well as music from my computer. I used my earbuds with these molds while playing music at my church today and they didn't seem to block out external sound at all. I could barely hear my mix through the earbuds over the stage monitor that the keyboard player uses. Another reason I thought these would work better than the foam earbud tips I had been using is that they are molded to my own ear. I found getting them back into my ears after removing them was a little more difficult than expected to get them repositioned just right. With how poorly they seem to block sound, they seem like they would work best as swimming earplugs to block water.

This is a great product. It is very easy to use and took all of ten minutes to form them and let them harden. The noise cancellation is top-notch and the material is comfortable in your ear for long periods of time. However... I decided to take these to the next level for an entirely unintended purpose and I am even more impressed now. After using the first pair to make my custom fit ear plugs, I picked up another set and used those to make a set of superb custom fit headphones for myself. I own a Plantronics BackBeat 903+ Headset and have never been satisfied with the fit. I have small ear canals and the headphones were very awkward fitting and uncomfortable, letting tons of outside noise in. So, I slapped the molding material into my ears, and then pressed the headphones right in. Once cured, but before totally hardened (about 20 minutes) I trimmed the tip that protrudes into the ear canal, and used a Dremel tool to hollow out the inside and round the cut edges. Needless to say, I now own an absolutely fantastic pair of custom fit bluetooth headphones that I can wear comfortably all day long. It's a bit of a project and I was worried that I might screw the whole thing up, but with a little patience, anyone that can wield a Dremel tool can do this too. I was so impressed with how well it turned out, I am ordering several more pairs to convert my other bluetooth headsets and a pair of backup earbuds. I posted some pictures in the product gallery so that you can see how nice they look. I highly recommend this product as both earplugs or for your own custom project.

I ordered a "set" of these earplugs and followed the instructions. They seemed to work well, until I put on my motorcycle helmet. There was so much material in the outside portion of my ear that the helmet kept pulling on them. The first time I used them they pulled out when I took my helmet off. After rereading some of the reviews here I decided to get another kit and try using less material. So I split the stuff so I could make two sets, but started by only making one earplug. The plug was so small that I almost couldn't get it out of my ear because there wasn't enough material to grab ahold of outside of my ear canal. I then tried using the remaining 3/4 material to make a pair of plugs. This seemed to be a good amount of material to get into the ear canal and leave enough out to easily remove. I let the plugs set in my ears for about 20 minutes, the instructions say to leave in at least 10 minutes. I then removed them and let them sit for about 4 hours. When I tried to insert them again I couldn't put them back into my ears. There was so much material going into the canal it actually hurt, like it was bottoming out. This was a great idea, but just didn't work. And for the price of 2 kits I was able to order 200 pairs of form earplugs here on amazon. Seems like a better use of the money to me.

I tried to to do DIY customs IEMs but it didn't come out the way I spected. What it did work was this product that it did what it was supposed to do. Very easy to use and to mold.

Easy to mould and they really do block out a lot of noise - great for sleep but maybe too much for motorcycling. I had enough left over goo to mould a custom pair of earbuds using some old headphones which seem to work pretty well

Buena idea, pero lo consigues tú mismo y mucho más barato utilizando una simple silicona putty. Es lo mismo.
