Does it work on 6 volt systems restoring 52 ford flat head v8

Ask power probe on their web site. The specifications list 12-24 volts but in use lesser voltages will register. Iit might need 12 volts to operate the unit. Best bet is to contact the manufacturer.

Can this be used to find the open spot in a wire or connector?

Yes it is used to find short to ground and short to voltage.

is the carbon fiber better the the old probe

Carbon fiber probe is exactly the same as any other power probe three model just painted a different color. Looks cool though so in a way yes its better (looking).

Is there a cigarette lighter plug to power the hook like there is for power probe III?

There is no cigarette lighter adapter. The cables that hook to the battery or batteries is about 15 to 20 '. It has to have a fairly heavy cable to carry test loads. It would not work through the cigarette lighter. To lite of a circuit.
