Don't have a clue as to the reason. I have not had an issue with some not freezing completely, however. **Q: what size are the finished ice cubes** A: 2” x 2” **Q: Can you use this for other liquids than just water?** A: I don't see why not. BUT, there will a lot of waste. I would say roughly 3/4 of the volume is discarded after you separate the ice mold. **Q: I tore the black silicone tray. Can I order a replacement?
