Before I started taking these pills I was getting gout attacks all the time--often two or more times a week. And some of these attacks were positively awful. My foot would swell up to almost twice its normal size, of course I couldn't walk on it, and the pain was excruciating. I spent hours icing down my foot, but that was only partly effective.
