    Great printer, super value!

*by F***R on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2018*

Great little project. It's my first 3d printer and with only a bit of reading and research I jumped right in. Arrived in good time with all parts included with a few extra nuts and bolts in case you lose one. Be careful to follow all instructions and watch both the videos and the .pdf before attempting. One limit switch had to be put on with some crazy glue as the pre drilled holes were too large for the self tapping screws included. Minor really. So does it make nice prints? It sure does but it takes a little tweaking. The biggest tip I have to give is to level the bed before each printing. The biggest problem I had was the tip too far the starting surface. This causes adhesion problems and causes poor layering. Set it just right and it's pretty amazing what this device can do. Highly recommended. One more thing, I had a small issue that was handled by email on a Saturday night with a response in less than 30 min. Excellent service from 3d Workbench, thanks.

Not too bad of a build

PLEASE READ .If you are going to start 3d printing and want this as an entry level printer don't do it. go with the cr-10 mini or similar . Please read . On with my review and why. Took me about 3 hours to get it all together. Not too bad of a build. I've been 3d printing for a long time and I know 100 percent this thing will not print well on first assembly. Axis rods are way too sloppy. Can move the bed almost 3/16 of an inch up and down . No big deal tie strap the axis rod to the thread rod right below it. The belt angle on the hot bed is horrible. A 5mm spacer to bring it down level would be so simple to add on and make a huge difference. When the hot bed reaches the limit switch the angle of the belt causes the bed to pull down and the servo motor strains to hit the limit. Also easy upgrade and fix. The bad part of the design is the hotbed doesn't travel straight due to the sloppy axis and overall design of the printer. Mount the printer to a piece of wood and you will be ok. Overall its not a horrible design . No Bowden tube to guide the filament really limits the position of the spool. . The printer always pulls power when it's plugged in. I got a half way decent first print but HERE IS THE BIG PROBLEM... the thermistor fell out of the hot end half way through the second print. The control board then cranked up the power to get the temp to reach 200 but the thermistor hanging out read 120 degrees . It almost caught fire and smoked out my whole room before I had a chance to unplug it. When it cooled down I went to remove the hot end and noticed the 40mm tube is bent really bad straight from the factory. THIS PRINTER DOES NOT HAVE OVERRUN PROTECTION ENABLED IN THE FIRMWARE?? Then add the fact that the hot end has no set screws like every other printer I've used to hold in the thermistor. It is going to burn someone's house down. I'm very torn however.I like this printer and it looks nice but the thermistor falling out, the bent hot end I didn't notice right out of the box. The upgrades and time needed to get it stable seriously are leaving me with buyers remorse and have me honestly wishing I'd bought another solid ready to print printer. I'm considering sending it back.Wanted to ad to my review. I decided to keep the printer. Here is what is needed to make it safe and print well .Fused ac plug adapter with power switch $13 . Change the hot end ASAP $19 with one that has a set screw to hold in thermistor. Changed the firmware and add extruder over run THIS IS A MUST.please read up on it for safety's sake. I changed the 8mm bed rods to hardened chrome plated rods ($11 on amazon stock werent true and hotbed was binding) . Took out the cheap rough bearings and put in derlyn bushings on the bed only $18. 2 external mosfets $22. The onboard ones are ok (until 220c or over 70c on the bed) Unnecessary upgrades found on thingiverse I did that made it print better were new cooling fan nozzle , z rod buttons and a really nice y belt bracket to bring the belt level on the bed , power supply cover to hold ac fuse ad adapter. I mounted the printer to a piece of wood and it prints as nice as my cr10 mini finally. (I'm in it the same price now). I am bummed though that now the display screen has a solid line of dead pixels that just quit out of nowhere during a print. Seems I can't win with this thing. It prints nice after upgrades and I feel it is safe finally but if you don't have another printer to make the parts to get it printing right then I would look for a different printer. If you want to buy a $220 printer and spend the money you saved buying a nicer one on parts needed to make it nice then this is your machine. Hopefully they will warranty the screen because I have hours and good money in upgrades so I'm stuck with it.

    Bang for the buck

Bought mine from Rekpro. Customer support Rep Tucker worked with me to make my holiday perfect. The A6 is a fine little printer, a little tweaking and it does a great job. I have been printing all day and it makes things that have joints so well that they have no problems moving. It is not for the timid though, you do need to have some machanical abilities to assemble this and continue to print. It is a little touchy, needs to be leveled frequently. Bed temp needs to be at 70 degrees to work best but it had no problem getting there. All works right out of the box!
