It seems to last just over a month at my house when using it only at night in the bedroom. I could tell it was getting to the end of its life because the screen was getting plugged with lime. It was still keeping the white dust away but the motor was struggling a bit more to get the vapor through; that would probably shorten the life of you humidifier so check it & change it when needed.You still need to be on top of keeping all the parts clean on this machine. This filter is not meant to "disinfect" the water/vapor. I still wash everything with hot water & vinegar a couple times per week. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Significantly Cuts Down on the White Dust *by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2013* We've got a hygrometer in our bedroom, and I noticed, after a couple of days of running our Crane Drop-Shape Humidifier, that the screen of the hygrometer would be covered in a film of white dust. I'd heard that ultrasonic humidifiers would create this dust.At first, after installing this filter, I thought I noticed an even quicker build up of the dust; I was pretty bummed. But, after running about 5 or 6 tankfuls through the humidifier with the filter installed, we have almost no dust at all. It's been about two weeks, and there's just a tiny bit of dust on our hygrometer, so I think this filter definitely cuts down on the dust deposits.I gave it a four-star rating because the filter is not serviceable or cleanable, so it's only disposable, and at 10 bucks, it costs about a quarter of what I paid for the humidifier. I wish there was a better way, but this filter does what it's supposed to do. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wish I had better tap water *by C***B on Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2010* I got this because I knew in advance that my tap water was 'hard'. In the drop humidifier instructions (which you don't read until you have purchased the thing) it says - note: It is recommended you used filtered or distilled water. The reason is because the minerals in tap water will cause some white dust to come from the machine. And I guess over time it will cause the unit to not work properly. Anyway I got this thing and they don't list here that it should be replaced after 30-40 refills - and you refill every day. That means the life of the filter is around a month. Just consider this expense if you have hard water like almost everyone does.The filter itself is around 3x5 inches. It fits in there just fine.
