Happyslapped by a Jellyfish (Know Your)

I love the trio of Ricky, Steve, and Karl so when I found out that Karl had a few books out I had to get them as well. This book was hilarious. I love Karl's views on ordinary things and to be honest I agree with quite a bit of them. In this book he explains all about his travels and the various things he's encountered (pre-An Idiot Abroad).I really wish I could get others to read his books. I've told several members of my family about Karl, Ricky, and Steve and nobody has interest for some reason. Maybe its because they prefer American humor or something. Whatever, their loss.Karl is awesome. I'm about to start his new book "The Moaning of Life" and I look forward to many more books from Karl.

Karl Pilkinton has such an amazing sense of humor and I never help but not only laughing, but laughing so hard that tears are in my eyes. All of The idiot abroad series made me laugh so hard, the moaning of life, all hysterical TV shows but his books are amazing too. But most of his books are just recaps of the TV shows which I've seen a bunch of times. This book is different because he tells of his travels with Suzanne who he never really talks about that much and it's absolutely hysterical. If you are a Karl pilkington fan, you absolutely cannot miss this one. It had me in stitches through the whole book

I'd first heard of Karl when I got the Ricky Gervais podcast from a friend for my birthday. His book comes across just like he does on the podcasts. It's a collection of his travels around the world from his Parents' house to Los Angeles to Ibiza. Some are written in story format, others as journal entries and sprinkled liberally throughout are poems and comic strips of "friend-of-friend" tales.It is a mix of non-sequitur and absurdism. It's as if Karl stops thinking after the first thought that crosses his brain. Sure, I might have had the same thought, "hey, if my head were on backward, I'd be able to face the audience if I were a pianist." But then, being normal, I would follow that thought up with all the other side effects of having my head on backward.Pilkington, however, does not move past the first thought of childlike wonderment of having his head on backward and doesn't seem to realize there is anything much past that initial thought. The end result is absolute hilarity.

I love everything about the Ricky Gervais show and have heard all the podcasts and the "guide to's" and have seen An Idiot Abroad. Though I love Steve and Ricky, I must say that the musings of Karl make my day. Ricky seems to hate it when people call Karl a genius (and he clearly is not) but I would never say that this man is stupid. I think he is very observant and has a sincerely simple way of seeing the world. If you want to read this book don't expect Faulkner or even Steve Martin- Pilkington is an odd bird but even the most mundane parts of his world are amusing and oddly interesting.

When you have a guy say that his 'mam' told him that in order to become a Hell's Angel you had to 'poo in your pants and then wear them for a week', all you can do is laugh so hard you choke. While reading this book, I kept thinking back to the antics of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn when they were convincing Jim to be locked up in the shed and pretend he was a captive slave and putting spiders in with him to make it 'real'. Karl's stories of the things he has done, places he has been, and his reaction to them are the funniest things I've read since Mark Twain's two boys had their great adventures. I just can't imagine anyone being bored by this book, so ignore the 1 star reviews and read the 5 star ones because I have a feeling that after you read this book, you'll be back here leaving 5 stars of your own.

I read this in one or two sittings, and laughed my way through all of Karl's largely unremarkable vacation stories. He writes very much (exactly) how he speaks, and as I expected, his vacations consist largely of sitting around and moaning. There's a bunch of hand drawn illustrations he's done as well, including pages of comics.Karl is a wonder. If you like An Idiot Abroad and The Moaning of Life, you'll love this book.

Makes you feel less alone in the universe. Very fun read. Thank you Ricky Gervais for shining a light on Karl. He is a gift to us all!

I watched the first season of "An Idiot Abroad" so I knew who Karl was, and I new his mannerisms. I could hear his voice throughout this book. I enjoyed the way he looks at life, and his wit. There were some parts in the book that dragged out without much substance or humor. If you have seen the series I would recommend this book. I will say, that if this book was longer, I don't think I would recommend it. Toward the end I was ready for it to be over. But it was an OK read.

I am really enjoying this book! Such an easy and fun read (especially for a casual reader like myself). I read this out loud to my spouse as we are both fans, and we have tons of belly laughs :D

Zumindest für meine Familie...Karl Pilkington reist mit den Seinen (Suzanne, mom, dad und zuweilen Suzanne`s Eltern) durch die Weltgeschichte und macht sich so seine Gedanken über Ibiza, Los Angeles, Teneriffa, Malaga, Lanzarote, Madeira, Brüssel, Australien etc.Worüber sich dieser "Philosoph des kleinen Mannes" so alles den Kopf zerbricht, ist schon amüsant, regt aber auch dazu an, sich über Alltäglichkeiten selbst einmal seine eigenen Gedanken zu machen!Das Buch "Happyslapped by a Jellyfish..." ist in einem Englisch geschrieben, das, wenn man denn einmal einige sprachliche "Sonderheiten" (Abkürzungen, umgangssprachliche Ausdrücke etc.) begriffen hat, auch für den "not native-born reader" sehr gut zu lesen ist und - so meine Meinung - Pilkingtons Gedanken noch viel besser vermittelt, als seine beiden Bücher in deutscher Sprache.Ich habe dieses Buch bei Amazon im Rahmen einer Sonderaktion preiswert erworben und bedaure nur, dass es für die vielen (potentiellen) Leser, die Karl Pilkington nicht in seiner Muttersprache lesen können, leider nur eine sehr begrenzte Auswahl deutscher Bücher (zwei) gibt und hoffe sehr, dass in Zukunft noch weitere Bücher von Karl übersetzt werden...Für mich ist Karl (wie eingangs erwähnt) einfach Kult und - wenn der Tag einmal wieder nicht so erfreulich war - dann endet er bei der Lektüre von Karl Pilkington wenigstens mit einem Lachen...

I am a huge Pilkington fan and thoroughly enjoy his genius work on TV and podcasting. Somehow, his humour doesn't translate quite as well into text, but I enjoyed the read nonetheless. This book is pretty much exactly what you'd expect.

I only really became aware of Karl Pilkington by watching an idiot abroad on tv. I liked his sense of humour and he seems like a 'normal' kind of bloke. This book is very funny and had me laughing out loud, it contains diary entries from Karl on things like holiday destinations with photos of Karl who always looks kind of 'bored' apart from when he went to los angeles and went to Ripleys.He talks about normal things like going to his mam and dads and his stay in hospital... it really is a funny book with little illustrations done by Karl. I read it really quickly coz i couldnt put it down, i liked it so much i have ordered more books by Karl. :-)

Witty, smart, dumb in a very sophisticated manner. One of my most recommended books of my life. Worth the purchase.
