The spring action is smooth and the tension is just right - the flaps open easily when the fan is on and quietly close up tightly when airflow stops. Solved a very chilly backdraft issue on our HVAC air return. It’s in a hard to fit location and I can’t repair it nor remove it. I have it held with expandable foam. I had to secure half the dampener with a shirt hanger or else it stays open and stops other half from functioning. It appears hing came apart and the spring that hold it shut pushes it to the other half. First I thought foam might of warped it but once I wired the half up it perfectly sealed the opening.
