Will this keep Microsoft Teams from showing an idle status?

Yes, this item will keep your screen active so it will not go into idle status and requiring a sign-in, the mouse is continuously moving.

I may have misunderstood product description. is this designed to keep the pc awake *just* by being plugged in? it doesn't have to be turned on?

PC has to be turned and logged in and jiggler has to be inserted and in an on mode. It defaults to on in the pixel setting but you can change it to random or off. It will not keep the PC awake if it's turned off. It works great in pixel mode and is not disruptive at all while working

Is it truly undetectable?

It connects to your computer like a wireless mouse. If anyone is watching if you're making keystrokes - yes it's undetectable. If anyone is observing your actual keystrokes they will see a repetitive pattern
