Do not use master mode on your lights as in most cases that dusables the dmx control that you are wanting. The dmx controller is output and your lights should have dmx in and a dmx out to next light. Also, make sure that the lights you have are dmx lights and not master/slave. You should have ether a dip switch or digital display to set the dmx channel. If you do not have ether then you will need a dmx switchpack to control the light with dmx. Hope this is helpful. **Q: How many lights will this control and what is a free software that does not require a license to use it?** A: It gives one universe of 512 channels. Depending on the number of channels each fixture takes will tell you how many units can be controlled. If you have a dimmer rack with one channel per light then you can control up to 512. If each unit takes up 13 channels you can have 39 fixtures plus a few channels left over. It won't work with Hog or MA but can probably work with the M-PC and other PC lighting consoles.
