Although I've never tried. You would have to ask the manufacturer. I've always used as a diffuser and it works great. **Q: How long do you think the scent lasts in the diffuser?** A: I have 2 of these in my apartment. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. I opened them at the same time and the levels of how long they have lasted are different. First, I flip the reeds weekly to gift off fresh scent. Second, I believe the one in the living room has less because it's directly in the sun. Long story short, I opened them both in March 2016 and they are both approaching 1/4th a glass of oil left. **Q: Are the reeds necessary? Can you just do the cute bottle and oil or will you not be able to smell it?** A: You can do that if you would like but the scent is better with the little reeds it sucks up the oil and it smells a lot stronger than the bottle just being opened. **Q: made in China???
