Works...kind of.
My one year old cat has never been a big fan of thunderstorms. She panics and hides until well after the storm passes. She crouches under the treadmill and we can't even bribe her with her favorite toys to get her to come out. Her anxiety level went through the roof this past May when we had a hail storm. I have tried "calming" treats, play distraction, turning on music to drown out the noise of the storm, etc. Nothing really works. And I've never been thrilled about keeping those plug ins plugged into my outlets that supposedly work for this problem. I worry about fires from plug ins as I've known this to happen. But I hate knowing how stressed she is. Out of desperation I decided to give this product a try. I've since used it numerous times. First of all, the key is to apply it to your cat BEFORE a storm pops up. So as soon as the sky starts looking stormy, I drop a few drops onto my hand and start applying it to my cat's back by petting her. Then I repeat the process so that a total of 5 or 6 drops has been rubbed in to her fur. I will sometimes rub some onto her cat tree as well since she loves hanging out there. And here's what happens...instead of immediately running and hiding once the storm starts, she goes into full alert mode. She'll stay like this for a little bit until the storm gets too loud and rumbling. Then she bolts per usual. BUT when she has the Stress Stopper on her, she can easily be coaxed out of hiding and if I keep her somewhat distracted, she does pretty well as far as not retreating back to her hidey hole. Does it work? Kind of. Is she LESS stressed? Yes! It's not the magical cure that I was hoping for, but it does seem to make a difference for sure. So just because of that, I will continue to use it. I feel as if this product really depends on the individual cat in my honest opinion.

Not for my cat
I've had Spirit Essences Stress Stopper for quite a while now. I bought it April 28, 2016, in preparation for family and friends that would be coming over for my son's high school graduation. My cat is prone to stress, so I wanted anything I could think of to try and help her. I'm a huge fan of Jackson Galaxy and use a lot of his techniques and recommendations with my cat, Lady. I had been debating getting the Stress Stopper Spirit Essences for probably six months, as Lady is also quite sensitive to scents. Finally, I just took the plunge and ordered. I tried using a couple drops in her water dish, as suggested. She refused to drink out of her water dish. Even after emptying the dish, scrubbing it out and washing it, she still refused to drink. For two days, Lady refused to drink any water from her dish. Of course, this caused immediate concern for me. Several washings later and she still wouldn't drink from her water dish. I ended up buying her a NEW water dish and then she started drinking it again. Ok, so I figured maybe the drops in her water wasn't a good idea for her. I figured I would try rubbing some in my hands and petting her, to see if that would work. Every night, she comes to snuggle with me in bed, so I tap the bottle on my palm a couple of times (as per the directions), put a couple drops in my palm, rub my hands together and start to pet her, as I do every single night. She took off like a snake had bit her and would not come near me for almost three days afterwards! I had really hoped this would work for Lady, but it is a definite no go!

It's Definitely Worth Trying
First I'll apologize, but this review will probably be long. Maybe it can help an owner and their cat. I had purchased the Grief Solution first after I had to put my cat to sleep in August (horrible.......). His 11 yo brother was confused and seemed lost and he was over grooming himself. I waited a few weeks and decided to adopt a new kitten. I thought it might help my 11 yo and me. I did the introduction very slowly and the 11 yo seemed to tolerate the kitten at first, then the 11 yo got very sick. He was vomiting and could not keep anything down including medicine. I was back and forth to the emergency vet. It was so stressful and so expensive. Where's the stress stopper for me?? We finally got him under control and eating again. I decided to try the Grief Solution because I thought his sickness was caused by stress. Stress of losing his brother and then more stress of the new kitten. In hindsight, getting the kitten that soon was a huge mistake. I didn't really expect anything from the Grief Solution but I figured it wouldn't hurt him. He seemed to like it when I'd put the solution on him. They instruct to tap the bottom of the bottle and I'd tape the bottom of the bottle and he'd show up, like he wanted the stuff. He then seemed to be doing better, emotionally. I started calling the stuff the magic juice. He had a slip backwards and needed another shot to stop the vomiting again and then he was ok again after that. Then I noticed he was doing the over grooming thing again. I decided to try the stress stopper. He likes it! He's less mopey. He's a little more active. I don't know how these solutions work, but I noticed that my cat reacted positively to both of the solutions that I purchased, so I would highly recommend trying them if you're having issues with your cat. Cats are weird and can be very difficult to figure out. I spent thousands at the emergency vet. They diagnosed him with pancreatitis, but couldn't figure out what caused it. Well I am pretty convinced that stress caused it. Sorry this was so long. I hope it helps someone and their cat.

Very expensive but works for about 30 mins to 2 hrs
2 stars because this solution stress stopper is very expensive. 4 or 3 stars because I believe it works and maybe just maybe it works too well. I have a rescue cat who is quite big mix of main coon, Russian blue and Nebelung. I added about 4 drops to his fur and within 3 mins he laid on his back on the carpet for about 5 to 10 mins around 5 other cats that he doesn’t get along with. He quickly got up without hissing and growling and jumped on the window sill and watched the cars that it worried me if he was ok. He is ok but quite. This is a cat that if you give him 100mg of gabapentin it won’t faze him because he is so big and stocky. I put 3 drops on a skinnier cat and he also went quite very quickly within seconds and sat calmly on a cat tree observing the big cat and they watched eachother face to face without threats like never before. It worked too well (or maybe not?!?) - well after touching the solution and patting my cats’ fur with it I smelled it and within mins I got drowsy and ran outside to get fresh air and then quickly washed my hands, nose, face and the inside of my nose. Not sure what ingredients were used as they are not all noted on the bottle but if I felt it, imagine what it does to a cat. So not sure how I feel about this product… I was thinking about never using it again if it affected me so quickly or maybe using gloves and a mask and 1 drop on the fur no more. Have not decided. I felt the smell and the taste in the back of my nose. Weird…
