This is easily one of my favorite pedals on the board
This is easily one of my favorite pedals on the board. What this can do for the price is phenomenal. With the attack all the way down and sustain all the way up, my notes can ring for hours. That is an exaggeration, but only because I keep playing. I have easily gotten several minutes on one note. Paired with my fuzz box (Thank You Deadbeat) it gives me a very heavy sound. I tend to keep the attack down and use other pedals to drive, but man, just for the sustain and compression effect alone, this thing is amazing.

RUN IT AT 18V.
5 stars because it's an epic value. The compressor ratio isn't adjustable, the attack knob doesn't get very fast, clicks when turned on, and on 9V it's suuuper squishy sounding and very volume limited. But on 18V it's a whole different animal - the attack feels more natural and the ratio seems to lower to my preference.Totally worth the $22.

Functional, Solid, and Affordable, but of course at its price point not mindblowingly good.
So, I mostly decided to write a review because of something I was unhappy with, but I'll cover that at the end because my experience has been largely positive. I've run this at both 9V and 18V over the past couple days, both seem to work well and at the suggestion of another review I'm keeping it at 18V unless I start hearing something about that being a bad idea.First time using a compressor on my live setup (have always done digital compression in my DAW for recording setup), pretty sure I'm going to be using one on all my boards in the future. This has helped me take my gain staging into territory I never thought possible (putting a lot of gain behind my fuzz pedal sounds *awesome*...I wish more people talked about how useful gain could be for that.) I'm a pretty high-gain guitarist, but up until now have always tried to cover my gain with what's already on my pedals. As such the sustain and volume knobs are the most valuable for my play style. The sustain has allowed me to use my fuzz for the long drones and bends I've fond of -- I used to use my BOSS ODB-3 with my fuzz behind it for this, but am now considering getting rid of the ODB-3 despite it being a mainstay of my board for 4 years since it can be very hissy. The attack knob could use more versatility. My clean tone is still a little too dynamic despite a good bit of experimentation, and I really bought this so I could tame my cleans. That said, I may just need to experiment more, which brings me to my first gripe -- the manual might as well not even come with the pedal for how useless it is. I'm *assuming* that the knob being turned all the way to the left means that its waiting as short a time as it can before it engages because that's how the compressor in my DAW works......but I really have no idea. The manual pretty much just says that each knob is each knob.Quoting the manual:ATTACK KNOBSet the attack time of compression effect.....That's not super helpful. As it says "time" I'm assuming that it the ratio isn't inverse, and as such the further clockwise it is turned the longer it waits, but it could also mean that a dimed attack means "as fast as possible." Again, I need to experiment more, but that's a little frustrating. My actual negative experience though was that out of the box, I heard something rattling inside. "Great, bad solder joint" is the first thing that came to mind. I figured I'd see if it worked and ended up waiting a couple days before I decided to just open it up and see what the rattle was. Turned out that the internal second nut and the star washer on the footswitch just weren't tightened in any meaningful way -- the nut on the outside of the enclosure was doing all the heavy lifting -- so I removed them. So, its actually fine...but that was also an unnecessary frustration. Being that cheaper pedals don't always have the greatest name, I'm kinda surprised that they just didn't do that in the first place; I'm sure a less inquisitive guitarist would've simply asked for a refund or return. And I mean...that probably happens a good bit. There's gotta be a lot of guitarists buying cheaper pedals who are too afraid to look at the circuit.Final verdict: The unit itself is good, but could use a little more versatility. The included literature could use a do-over, but assuming that it works as expected, is technically unnecessary; its just frustrating that they even bothered to include a manual if it didn't say much of anything useful.

Tubescreamer alternative
A lot of users say that this is a clone of the Ibanez Tubescreamer. Watching several videos online with both pedalsin an A/B setting confirmed this. I can't tell any difference sonically. The more I played with the pedal, the more Ibelieve that this is a straight out copy of the original. It has the same mid hump, the same amount of low gain and the same amount of volume. I prefer using a tubescreamer type of pedal as a boost for my tube amp's dirt channel or boosting my overdrive pedals. It would be nice if they added an extra 6db of volume for this purpose.I guess they just copied all the values of the original's electronic specs. As a stand alone overdrive, if you're not into high gain, then this is worth checking out. It is a soft clipping, low gain overdrive that's perfect for blues. It's mid range is prominent that works well with Fender & Vox tube amps. If you already have a TS-9 or a TS-808,this can be a back-up pedal that can be had for a lot less. The pedal seems to be sturdy & made out of metal. If I can find any faults about this pedal, it will be just a couple of details. And that would be nitpicking. The first one is about the lack of headroom in the volume. Extra loudness will make this pedal special. Second, I wouldlike to see a better footswitch. I would love to see a soft clicking and silent footswitch. And that's about it......a tubescreamer type pedal that's very small and inexpensive.

Perfectly workable compressor for the money
Bought this to use with my six string ibanez bass. I am not disappointed; it works well. It does not sound noisy to me, though any compressor is going to bring up noise inherent in your signal path, so expect more noise if you have a bunch of pedals or a noisy instrument before it. With some judicious tweaking, I get a punchy sound with good sustain. I have a feeling this is going to be an "always on" pedal in my bass rig.It is build solidly, though there is a rattle when I shake it which I find worrying. At some point I'm going to take it apart and figure out what that is, but for now it seems ok. Not gonna knock a star off for that, because for $20 I'm just happy it's not plastic.Bass players be advised: it will knock out some low end when engaged. Spectrum analyzer shows a 2-3 db drop from 80 to 40 hz.

Holy Cow!!!
Hello? I thought this might be a trick or a misprint when I saw the price for this pedal. It cost less than two beers at a hotel bar, yet it blows me away! This guy has a nice sweet spot, but is incredibly versatile to achieve anything from overdrive to pure grinding distortion. It is not muddy, and yet the tone control will allow muted warm tones all the way to cutting, edgy, biting highs. I would pay $100 for this pedal. It is cool, small, simple, and awesome, period. Buy it right now. For the cash, you have nothing to lose, and everything to GAIN!!! ๐ธ๐๐ธ

High performance with low price tagof
I took the gamble on this little gem of a compressor and glad I did. It's very responsive and tweakable from a little to a lot of compression and everywhere in between. Small, compact, inexpensive and does the job. I've gone through several compressors over my many years of playing and this one met or surpassed those. Now I can sell the Keeley and Boss I have gathering dust.
