Rented an impact wrench and busted the old anode free in 5 seconds. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ No more rotten egg smell! *by F***E on December 6, 2025* I bought a new geothermal water heater. After a week, the hot water started smelling horrible with sulfer (rotten egg smell). I bought an aluminum rod to replace the Mg rod thinining that would fix it. Nope. It was better, but after a month the horrible smell was back. I broke down and spent the money for the Corro-Protec anode. It's been 6 months and NO SMELL! I'm not too worried about if it actually protects the tank, because when I looked at the rod that was in the 23 year old water heater I replaced, I discovered someone had cut off the original anode. I bought it new at a big box store and I know I didn't cut it off. So, it never ever even had one and the tank was fine.
