CH Hanson 3040 - Magnetic Stud Finder

If you have struggled with the battery powered stud finders in the past, this is the ticket. There is nothing complicated about it and you don't have to watch for lights to come on or blink. Just put it on the wall, swirl it around up and down and BAM, it finds the metal in the studs. It is a strong magnet and works great!

Works amazing! same concept as a solo magnet you run back and forth or as some suggested tie a magnet to a string so you can swing back and forth....but....this thing is so easy to use and finds the stud screws so smoothly. Inexpensive and does the job exactly.....how can you ask for more?

Let me start by saying im a NOVICE DIY-er. I wanted to mount a small TV to the wall and I needed a stud finder to do it. After endless research and scrolling I realized the electrical kind are hit or miss. Less is more with me anyway so I figured I'd have more luck and better success with a manual/magnet type like this one. IT WORKED and it was so easy. I simply slide it along the wall slowly until the magnet found a screw within the studs along the wall. NOTE: You do need to center the stud finder magnet onto the screw/nail once you find it. It may just find it but at its edge or slightly below it because the magnet is strong. It has a liquid leveler in the center if you need it. It's well made so I cant see it breaking or anything. It's also pocket sized and fits in the palm of my hand easily. This was my first time ever needing to find a stud and this made it really foolproof. I can't recommend it enough for a beginner.

These are great and very reliable. Don't have to worry about it sitting in your tool box for years and replacing the battery. Magnets are very powerful and will pick up a nail or dry wall screw with no trouble. This should be in everyone's toolbox.

The unit would not remain attached to my old plaster walls. However, it did provide a noticable tug when sweeping over a stud with nails in it. Once I detected the first stud, I measured 16" in both directions and the magnetic tug in those locations verified I was on track. Simple, compact, accurate and cost effective. This worked much better than any stud finder I have ever owned. Well worth the price, handy to have in the tool box.

Great tool for finding metal studs, and you can run across the drywall to locate the edges, and therein the center of each stud. Very strong magnet sticks to the drywall steadfast at each metal stud. Right-sized not too large, not too small. Just don't get fooled into thinking that it'll locate wood studs - it might locate a nail in a wood stud behind the drywall, but not the wood stud. Tool can also double as magnet to collect fallen metal nails, screws, etc. It's contains a strong magnet, so should be kept away from electronic screens and devices. Don't drop it in your pocket with your smart phone.
