Blood Meridian is Cormac McCarthy's acclaimed novel of violence, survival, and the American frontier, widely regarded as one of the most significant works of modern American literature. Set along the nineteenth-century Texas–Mexico border, the story follows a teenage runaway known as the Kid as he becomes entangled with the notorious Glanton gang, a group whose brutal pursuits leave a trail of destruction across the frontier. At the centre of the novel stands Judge Holden, a mysterious and imposing figure whose presence shapes the gang's journey through a harsh and unforgiving landscape. Blending historical inspiration with powerful prose, Blood Meridian is both a striking reimagining of the Western novel and a profound exploration of human nature, violence, and destiny. "Imagine if the authors of the King James Bible, their hands guided by Satan, wrote a western" – The Times "In Blood Meridian, McCarthy reaches the peak of his style: spare and ornate at once, repetitious but endlessly readable" – Guardian Praise for Cormac McCarthy: "His prose takes on an almost biblical quality, hallucinatory in its effect and evangelical in its power" – Stephen King "McCarthy worked close to some religious impulse, his books were terrifying and absolute" – Anne Enright "In presenting the darker human impulses in his rich prose, McCarthy showed readers the necessity of facing up to existence" – Annie Proulx Part of the Picador Collection , a series showcasing outstanding works of modern literature. Review: Ybgv - Book is in good condition Review: A violent antithesis of the American West. - After playing the video game Red Dead Redemption 2, I came across the book Blood Meridian in various subreddits as it has a few references in the game. I was intrigued so I bought the book without a second thought. But be warned. The story is vivid in it's description of brutality and bloodshed. So, unless you can't stomach a little bit of blood and gore, I'm afraid this won't be your cup of tea. Also, the author Cormac McCarthy is known for his polysyndetic usage of "and", and he also doesn't use quotations in dialogues. So, while the prose is still beautiful to read it may be difficult for some. Concerning the book, the Picador Collection paperback is probably the most affordable version available for the Indian subcontinent and on desertcart. The book was delivered to me in perfect condition without so much as a dent.

Get the Hardcover instead!!
The hardcover is absolutely beautiful. I HATE the Picador version of this book just because how poor the quality of its pages are but the OG modern library version(the one that I have) is just stunning. I gave 4 stars out of 5 because the outer cover is not in a very good condition.

The book is a must buy, but look at the seller first.
This isn't a review of the content of the book rather the quality of the service, that being said, if you want to read the book go for it, you might not enjoy or you might enjoy it, its all subjective so there's no point pondering. I bought the book through U-read, I usually find their service to be better but this time around, I was utterly disappointed, the book was dirty it bent at the corners and the delivery bag had red stains on it.

Not for everyone...but if it is, it's 5 stars
Brutal, relentless, no redemption arc. The prose is insane, biblical almost. Not a fun read, but one of the best books I've ever read. Know what you're getting into.

A worthwhile, violent challenge
Blood Meridian is not for the faint of heart or for relaxing entertainment. It was for me, immensely challenging in parts, and there is no lack of horrific gore throughout the book. I guess that's why I have such praise for it. I just finished about 30 minutes ago, and I know a book has affected me when I have to sit for a while and let my mind digest what I've read, as best as it can. It's been a long time since I've felt the need to re-read a book, but I suspect in a year or so I will go back to it because the density and complexity of the prose is such that I'm sure that I will be able to glean more from it with at least a second reading. I'm embarrassed, as a reader, to say that this is the first Cormac McCarthy book I have read, and it's taken me so long to finally get to it (I am 44 years old). In some ways, it brought back the feeling I had the first time I read A Clockwork Orange when I was 12, and I loved it, even though at the time much of the language confounded me since Burgess just made up his own slang, so I had to read it again. It's really a good feeling, oddly. Also, this is a much "easier" read on Kindle because McCarthy refuses to translate when conversations occur in Spanish, at times uses archaic vocabulary, which may or may not include old west American or Spanish slang. You won't find every word or phrase in the Kindle dictionary, translation, or Wikipeida, but it helps often. There are parts of this book, especially towards the end, that definitely feel like scenes from "No Country for Old Men" even though No Country is a modern setting, and Blood Meridian is old west. They are very different stories, but they share a theme of a man against unstoppable forces (crazy guy/nature/the universe/fate/luck). In Blood Meridian, many of the characters are not even given names. The book begins with a character simply referred to as the kid. No quotes or capitalization, just the kid. The other primary protagonist is the judge. These are two of the most significant characters in the book, while other, lesser characters are named unceremoniously and with little or no background, and go away just as quickly. McCarthy forgoes standard pronunciation during conversations, so sometimes it is difficult to discern who is actually speaking. But, it's all part of the demonstration of how this band of mercenaries meld into a single, violent organism. The book begins with the kid, but his "character" disappears throughout much of the book as he is absorbed into the group. He's mentioned occasionally, and when he is it is significant, but rare until the latter part of the book when he emerges again as a primary in the action. The judge, on the other hand, remains a primary figure throughout the book once he is introduced, and he's a fascinating, hulk of a man, hyper-intelligent, talented, despicable, and insane. He is not the official leader of these mercenaries, but drives this group of mercenaries to become what the do. The prose oscillates between long descriptive passages as they ride through the southwest and Mexico and back up to the west, bloody massacres that include truly brutal acts that made me wince (and I'm not squeamish), and scenes of debauchery. Once these men begin to meld, much of the descriptions are of the land that they ride through and endure, and there are many long paragraphs and run-on sentences that weave the descriptions with primary theme in the book, which is, I think, the nature of violence in man and nature, and what it means to dominate, kill, and destroy. This is not just manifested in man but in all facets of living and dead and things that never lived. It's not an easy book. It is up there with the most complex works by Dostoevsky or Joyce but it is intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally challenging that I feel is very rewarding.

Edizione ben fatta, libro senza eguali.
