is this weather proof, and can I mount it instead of hang it?

Not sure about weatherproof, but I do know for a fact it's a waste of money, can't see it at all in daylight!

Does this get very hot?

I have my sign running around 10-11 hours a day and it doesn't get hot, maybe like a cell phone warm, but nothing dangerous.

is it bright enough to see during daylight hours through smoked glass?

The smoke glass will take away some of the brightness but you should still be able to see it anyway. Very bright and good lights!

Does this come with a remote control?

No, it does not have a remote control. We sell on Amazon a different Ultima LED model that has remote control, it's the model 6.
