Review: Mosely? - Obviously, Mike Patton is one of the very best vocalists out there. But judge this album on its own merits and not by comparing Mosely to Patton. Mosely clearly isn't a very good singer in terms of skill or talent. But his vocals on this album somehow work although they really shouldn't. On this album, the band has developed its unique combination of pop/rock/funk/metal that would see itself on the next Faith No More album, the much acclaimed "The Real Thing". Mosely's lethargic vocals are mostly at odds with the rest of the music. But it still works, as he emits a new wave/punk vibe which makes things surprisingly connect. There are great songs on this album and this should certainly be part of any Faith No More fan's collection. It will appeal in particular to anyone who appreciates that intangible, fun late '80s vibe. All this while the album is generally steeped in a dark, brooding mood which shifts between the foreground and the background.
Review: Solid Introduction to FNM Before Mike Patton - I've gone through audio cassette, CD, CD and yet another CD of this album in my collection through the years. IT's nice to finally have a vinyl. The sound is much better on 180g than any digital version. Chuck Mossey's vocals sound better and Jim Martin's guitar sounds give you a better appreciation for his talents early on. For any real fan, this is a must add to the collection.
