I bought this remote to replace my Apple TV remote that suddenly died (I’ve had my Apple TV since 2018). I was hoping it would be easy to set up and it was. There was actually no set up needed. I put in two AAA batteries, that doesn’t come with the remote, and it worked immediately. No programming, no nothing it even turned on my actual TV, which is an Insignia TV, so this remote not only works my Apple TV but the TV set as well. Wasn’t expecting that so it’s a double win. Also, much easier to use than my Apple TV remote.

This is a great remote for Apple TV box, it required no setup whatsoever and works perfectly. The only thing that you will be missing that the Apple remote has is voice activated controls. For the price, this remote is amazing, I highly recommend it.

I received this remote yesterday (7/9/23), which promises compatibility with AppleTV. I'm returning it today (7/10); read on to find out why. On Apple's original remote, two buttons seem like they may do the same thing, but they don't. The attached image of the two buttons from the Apple remote shows the back button on the left (<), which takes you back to the last screen you were on. You can keep pressing it to go all the way back until you trigger the screen saver. The button on the right is unique to Apple TV in that it reveals a control panel that slides out from the right side of the TV screen to let you control several different important features: 1. At the top, you can select between different user profiles. For example, we have three profiles: one for shows my wife and I like to watch together, one for shows I like but my wife doesn't, and a guest profile for people who may be house-sitting while we're away on vacation. The + button lets you create new user profiles as needed. 2. You can quickly get to the search screen at the bottom right. 3. At the middle bottom, you can select the sound output. For instance, you can send the AppleTV sound to your HomePods, your AirPods, or to your TV's sound output. 4. At the bottom left, there's the HomeKit button, which lets you check home automation events like someone ringing your video doorbell to deliver your pizza for movie night. NONE of this is possible using the "New Universal Replacement Remote Fit for Apple TV." Worst of all, I tried using the "Learn Remote" feature in the AppleTV settings, and all it could learn from the remote was the up-arrow. Every other button I tried to add showed the message, "that button is already in use." If the manufacturer wants to make this remote truly compatible with AppleTV, then they must leave the back arrow (<) as it is and figure out a way to make the "MENU" button work like the TV screen button on Apple's remote. Otherwise, this remote is basically useless.

Good but still missing basic functions in the control

It just works out of the box. The one odd thing is there is no way to turn the Apple TV off. There is a TV on/off button. And you can wake the Apple TV with the menu button. But no way to put back in sleep mode. I have the set Apple TV to auto sleep after 15 minutes, which works. Or you could select sleep mode in the menus (a pain). A minor oddity. But for the price and what it does, if you need a new remote for your Apple TV, gotta give this one 5 stars.

I have a 15 month old son, who loves to hide every remote in the house and hide them in places you would never think to look (months later and I still haven’t found my original TV remote or my Apple TV remote) so I purchased this universal remote and I AM IN LOVE! I use Apple TV for all of my television channels and with this remote it not only turns on the Apple TV but it also turns on my television too. The buttons are bouncy and really easy to use and my favorite feature about it is: if I lose the remote, I can open my drawer and grab a spare - pop two AAA batteries - and it works without any programming! We currently have about 10 of these scattered around the house because they work with any of my televisions that have Apple TV on. I say we have 10 of them around the house because eight of them are hidden somewhere that we will find from time to time when we come across my son’s secret hiding spaces. They are totally worth your money so if you are thinking about purchasing one - do it! It is worth every penny!

I took a gamble on this remote as a replacement for our Apple TV. We can never seem to find our remotes. They go missing all the time. I was enthusiastic about the remote immediately powering on my TV and controlling the volume without any programming at all, but the Apple TV functions didn’t work at all. I still had to power The Apple TV box and control it through my phone. I was disappointed so I came back on Amazon and read some reviews to see if there were any similar issues listed. I only read a couple of reviews, but didn’t see any similar issues. I decided to try unplugging my Apple TV for 10 seconds and then plug it back in with the remote to the Apple TV box. Everything worked perfectly once I did that! The remote is now controlling everything as expected!

this is a good little remote if you don’t want to use all of the features of apple TV. the only buttons that work are menu, the directional buttons, OK, back and play/pause. the volume, skipping/fas forward, channels, power and mute aren’t recognised by our apple TV (Apple TV 4K (2nd generation, A2169)). handy if you need a cheap remote in a pinch as no setup was required, just put batteries in and point it at the apple TV and it works.

I only had to add battery and it connected to both my Samsung tv and Apple TV.

Works perfectly.
