Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Smartwatch - UK Version

I have owned an Apple watch, Pebble smartwatch and a moto 360 and this is without a doubt the best smartwatch I have owned. Once you have used a smartwatch for more than about a week you soon realise the main use cases (at least for me) boil down to: checking notifications, changing songs and checking the weather or time at a glance only occasionally actually using apps. This can, of course, be done on any smartwatch but none are as streamlined as this one. Notifications behave much the same as an apple watch coming in you can keep looking and the notification will "expand" into more detail or lower your wrist and it will go away. But when it comes to checking notifications that have already come in it's as simple as turning the ring around the watch to the left to cycle through them, and your weather and music widgets are accessed by turning the ring to the right instead. It is very intuitive. The touchscreen is very responsive and is a very good resolution for its size. Anyone familiar with a Samsung device will know that they come loaded with options and this watch is no exception, there are more options than I can even be bothered to look at but the end result is a watch that can behave exactly the way you want it to. It syncs to your phone via the Gear app (which is now preloaded on most Samsung phones I think but can be downloaded from the app store, although at the time of my purchase any non-Samsung phones had to jump through multiple hurdles to get the watch to work and in some cases it didn't have all the features so it is best to check your phone is supported before purchasing). The Gear app allows you to change the order of the widgets (or remove/add new ones) as well as adding health information and transferring songs to the inbuilt 4GB of storage, useful if you intend to take it running with wireless headphones (The UK only has the WiFi version of the watch so whilst you can run with it and listen to music you will not receive texts/calls without having your phone on you). One of the best features in my opinion though is the ability to receive notifications from your phone if the watch is connected to WiFi, even if your phone is on 3G and not connected to the watch by Bluetooth. This means you can walk around the house, leaving your phone upstairs and still get texts sent to your wrist. Overall, this is a very good smartwatch, in fact probably the best you can buy right now, its crammed with features and its water resistance gives you that added piece of mind but whether it's worth the money or not is ultimately down to you and how much usage you think you will get from it.

Most people will know the features of this lovely watch so I'll just record a few thoughts having owned it now for a couple of weeks. The fit: very comfortable. I do have skinny wrists and so I was a little worried it might be too big but actually it's no bigger than the Pro-Trek I'd worn previously so it certainly doesn't look out of place. Incidentally, I tried it with the default large band straight out of the box and I wear it with 2 or 3 holes still free. The strap also fits neatly in the double clasps so there's no excess strap sticking out in a unsightly fashion. The battery life: like some other users, I also prefer to use it as a smart watch and so have bluetooth, wifi, location etc all activated and I'm still at the stage where I'm constantly ogling it but battery life has always been around the 2 day mark which is good in my opinion. I also installed the latest update which promised better battery life and improved bluetooth but I haven't noticed any difference. Battery performance is still around the 2 day mark and there weren't any issues with bluetooth prior to the update so I'm not sure what exactly the update was trying to accomplish. The apps: I do have a Samsung phone so I don't have any issues to report with apps/compatibility but I do note other non-Samsung phones/iPhones etc don't have the same full range of features when paired with the Gear S3. I've been a long-term Fitbit user and I don't like Samsung Health as much. When I compared Fitbit performance with Samsung Health, the Fitbit seemed more accurate for step counts/floors climbed etc. with SH generally recording less in each case than the actual, sometimes by about 10%. Heart rate measurements are similar on both devices. It's great being able to answer calls/texts using your watch and I've found the speaker to be very clear and the person I'm talking to has reported hearing my voice clearly when I talk at normal volume. Watch faces are awesome, I've taken advantage of the Facer app also with plenty of great choices. General thoughts: This watch is absolutely gorgeous. The screen is excellent quality with everything very clear and readable. I can expect the battery life to improve even more when I'm finally able to stop looking at it! The wireless charger is a nice touch, the phone just sitting gently in the cradle. Integration with Samsung S9+ is flawless. It's a top gadget. I wish I had bought one sooner. Also, I bought mine directly from Amazon and had no problem registering it on the Samsung website for the 2 year warranty. It was a UK model. I'd like to be able to try Samsung Pay but unfortunately my bank doesn't use it. Hope some of these comments prove to be useful. Have a good un.

So, here is a small review for all you iPhone users out there trawling the reviews looking for how it works with IOS. I spent ages toying with which watch to go for, Apple Watch or this. It would have been really easy to go with the Apple Watch but it just looks bland (in my opinion). If I have a watch on my wrist I want it to look like one and the S3 frontier certainly ticks that box. Obviously the Apple Watch will not work 100% with my 6S but I was prepared to gamble on losing some of the functionality of the S3 for the looks. Having had the S3 a few days now, I am not disappointed. Yes it would be nice to have all the same as you have if linked to Samsung phone, like SOS function, access to all apps and watch faces and being able to reply to texts and emails (if I am honest though would I really use this, as the text pad is that small I wouldn't be writing a long message). However what I do have works really well. Taking calls on it is amazing and people on the other end can't even tell the difference. (A few reviews I read said you can't make calls on IOS but you can). The notifications come through prompt and are useful if you don't want to be getting your phone out every 5 mins. The free apps and Watch faces you can get are enough to do for now. PIP boy is my fave at moment. I really hope Samsung allow more access to the paid for apps and faces. I did read a few reviews about the Bluetooth dropping out and having to reconnect. At the time of writing this has not happened to me once. What I have found useful, is that when you go out of range from your phone your watch vibrates and a little Watch symbol appears at the top of the face. This happened when I parked up and walked away from my car so straight away I realised I had left my phone in the car. Word of warning, be very careful buying from Amazon Market place sellers. As a few reviews have mentioned, they are selling non UK models and therefore you will be unable to update software and use certain apps. I spoke with Hottest deals UK and they said their watches where UK/Dubai models!!!!! No such thing and that means theirs will be UAE models. All in all very happy I got this Watch. Does what I want it to do even with an iPhone and also looks amazing. (People say it's massive, I have small wrists for a 6ft2 lad and it doesn't look big at all). Hope this helps.

This is a nice watch but the seller doesn't appear to be selling the UK version as claimed! When my watch arrived it came in the Samsung box which had 2 sticky labels around the middle, acting as seals, which said "if seal is broken don't open the box." Neither if the seals appeared broken so I removed them, only to find identical seals below which had been broken! Never the less I continued to open the box, the watch inside was clearly brand new, and there was a UK plug in with it. However once I charged it up and turned it on, the language was set to Romanian! I was lucky in that a friend of mine showed me his similar watch last week so within a few minutes I'd worked out how to change the language to English, I then went onto the Samsung website and downloaded the full manual. Let me be clear, none of this affected the watch, it performs well, although battery life is not great, maybe 3 days, and even using the 'fast charger supplied, it takes quite a while to charge the watch. My slight gripe is it may be UK spec, but this watch is the Romanian version, not the UK version, however the price was good and I like the watch so overall I'm happy now!

I bought a Gear S2 Classic (excellent device) last year and liked the look of the Gear S3 Frontier as soon as it was announced but baulked at the £349 asking price, the recent Prime Day reduction saw the price dip to £249 so took the plunge. I'm perhaps not the most typical smart watch user in that by default I turn off all the notification features, the phone (Galaxy S8) does that perfectly so no need to replicate that on my wrist. I do however travel a great deal swapping in and out of Global time-zones and the Gear devices are fabulous for that - either manually changing the time zone on the phone or having the phone sync with local network time automatically means that the watch is always absolutely bang on with the right time. The S3 Frontier is everything that the S2 Classic was but in a lovely chunky (dare I say it; 'Manly') size, it has the wonderful tactile quality that Samsung have built into the S8, a genuinely nice device to hold and handle. I own a proper Breitling Aerospace watch and it feels every bit as nice in the hand - praise indeed. The rotating crown feels perfectly weighted and is notated with silver digits, 05,10, 15 etc, looks gorgeous. There is just one thing that disappoints, especially compared wih the S2 Classic and that's the strap - the S2 had a quality lined, black leather item that was both stylish and comfortable, the black silicone strap of the S3 Frontier whilst still a quality item detracts from the premier feel of the device however there are numerous alternatives - I bought a blue leather strap Quick Release Leather Watch Strap, Fullmosa Axus Series Genuine Leather Replacement Watch Strap with Stainless Metal Clasp 22mm Dark Blue , a truly quality product that fits perfectly and looks like it was meant to be there from day one. Both the S3 Frontier and the strap are recommended, buy! Update, one month into ownership. The S3 Frontier is a universally admired device even in the company of the 'Apple faithful' because it looks like a premium watch should. Battery life is remarkable, without the always-on display enabled it seems to consume about 15% charge a day (bear in mind I have most of the notification options turned off) so battery life in this mode is closing a week. With the always-on-display enabled after an 18 hour day it will go back onto the charging dock with 60-65% charge remaining, so good for a couple of days. Still impressed.

I usually buy expensive automatic watches but took the plunge with the Smartwatch at the medium price bracket for Smartwatches, not the cheap end. Pleasantly surprised with the functionality and the quality feel. Used S3 gear app store and found more than enough apps to boggle the mind. Including a free golf GPS which i was pleased with, however, the drain on the battery left me with 18% battery life left after a 4 hour round of golf. Hopefully i won't just get bored of the watch as i would like to think its not just a short term gimmick, that wouldn't be the watches fault. Points to note: this isn't a standalone smartphone on your wrist like Android smartwatches, there are versions that have 3G so if you need that functionality get the right version. Battery life is severely reduced by using GPS, battery runs for 2 days for me on normal use. Highly visible in most light conditions. The watch is water resistant but not recommended for swimming apparently ( not tried it though) Update: Having used this watch every single day since i was delivered I am convinced it's a great bit of kit. I have installed dozens of watch faces, I've installed plenty of Apps (and removed plenty) the performance is good, I have nothing to compare it to. There is no discernible lag and 4gb storage seems adequate. I've used the GPS quite frequently and found it as accurate as my phone. Some applications are almost pointless unless you have a magnifying glass. the pixel resolution is great (400X 400) and is sharp and bright. love it. Using the watch as a speaker and mic is a novelty, that I personally found little use for. Using the GPS for navigating and Golf GPS drains the battery quite quickly. Normal use without using "always on" drained the battery to 60% left so in reality I believe I'll get 2 full days unless I need GPS or play too many games. My normal usage doesn't include music playing. Overall Pros: Wireless battery charging GPS dedicated on the watch Heart rate monitor Good exercise tracker Water resistant Ease of use Very easy to switch out watch faces Great display, able to read in any light Fast and plenty of Apps (for me) Interchangeable bracelets Vast amount of different free watch faces Good speaker volume Mic picks up well Cons: Not full Android (not sure that isn't a positive) Most settings and apps have to be run or installed from your Android device Can be considered big for smaller wrists Not suitable for use whilst swimming GPS drains the battery quickly The black look isn't for everyone 2 days battery life Overall I would thoroughly recommend this watch.

My watch of 20 years finally shuffled off it's mortal coil so I had to search for a replacement. Now I am a 50+ overweight fellow who is trying to shed a few pounds so I decided to take the plunge and get a smart watch. I shied away from getting the S3 at first as I don't have a Samsung handset and opted for one of the many other android watches on the market. It was a nice enough watch but felt very 'cheap' and I wasn't inspired by the build quality. So after a bit of research I took the plunge and went for the S3. I was worried about it having a stainless steel back plate as I have had problems with rashes but took the gamble as it is painted so I hoped it would reduce the chance of any irritation. . .it did. After a week on constant daytime wearing in warm environments there has been no sign of a rash. The actual quality of the watch is solid. It not only looks great, it also feels great and it feels like a premium product! The actual functions of the watch are very simple, it paired with my non Samsung watch with ease and directed which applications I needed to get everything working. The moving bezel just makes using the watch simple, Samsung pay was easy to set up and it even tells me when to get off my backside and do some exercise. . . So in conclusion the pros and cons are: Pros Premium quality. Looks great. Easy to use. Tells me when to get off my backside and work out. Cons: Tells me when to get off my backside and work out. I 100% recommend this to anyone after a quality watch, not sure if it will last 20 years but overall it has impressed me enough that my next handset will definitely be a Samsung.

Firstly, very fast delivery and the item was very well packaged to avoid damage whilst in transit. It arrived before the estimated delivery date which is always a bonus. This watch from Samsung is, in my opinion, the best smartwatch currently available. Incredibly easy to setup. Simply open the box, turn onthe watch and it will sync with your phone and begin the setup by itself. Wonderful. (I must clarify that I also have a Samsung phone which perhaps makes the process somewhat easier). I have had no issues at all since setting up the phone, and easily get three days between charges and I use the watch a lot to look at notifications, check my s-health data, look at the heart rate monitor and reply to texts. I have previously owned several Pebble watches, and whilst their battery life is amazing at around 7-10 days, the Samsung watch clearly has a lot more to offer and run so you would expect a reduction. I have friends who have the apple watch and they report that they are lucky to get two days. The user interface is very intuitive and the screen is crisp, clear and bright. The built in heart rate monitor is accurate and a very useful tool, as is the onboard GPS should you be away from your phone nut still want to track your data such as when out for a walk or run. I didn't think I would use the built in speaker and mic, but I was wrong and have already taken phones calls whilst my hands were full which I would have missed otherwise. Not sure how often this feature will get used, but it seems to have earned its place already. I love this watch, and can currently find no faults. I would highly recommend.

Me gusto esperaba alguna mala experiencia pero al final me fusto mucho súper original con todo y su estuche nada más que si el cargador es tipo europeo pero con un adaptador se arregla,no duden es buen producto!!!

Diese Smartwatch ist eine schöne Uhr, aber wer denkt das man viele Funktionen wie auf dem Handy nutzen kann irrt sich. Im Grunde genommen ist die Uhr nicht mehr als eine Spielerei. Eine teuere Spielerei. Anders sieht es da natürlich mit den Fitness Funktionen der Uhr aus. Wer Sport treibt, oder einfach nur auf seine Fitness achten möchte, kann die Uhr viele Funktionen dafür bereitstellen. Die Auflösung des Displays ist gut und die Bedienung einfach. Die Akkulaufzeit ist beeindruckend lange. Sogar in den ersten Tagen, als ich die Uhr noch mehr in Nutzung hatte, hielt der Akku sogar 2 Tage. Das einzige was etwas gestört hat, war ein Verbindungsproblem am Anfang, obwohl das Zielgerät auch ein Samsunggerät war. Aber mit Hilfe aus dem Internet wurde auch dies schnell erledigt. Auch wenn es nur für mich eine teuere Spielerei ist, bin ich trotzdem sehr begeistert von dieser Uhr und kann sie nur empfehlen.
