Brother LX17 Sewing Machine

I LOVE this machine. I grew up with my mum's 1970's Husqvarna workhorse, which was incredibly user friendly and still runs like a dream. I wanted my own machine finally, but wouldn't be able to afford a super fancy one. At the same time I wanted quite a basic machine without too many crazy functions, because I know I will mostly be making minor repairs/alterations, and on occasion sewing myself a t-shirt or blouse or similar. So nothing too complicated. I have had this for a few weeks now and have made three blouses and seven baby dresses, as practice pieces to test out the various features and how it fares with different fabric types. I am really happy with what it can do, and how smoothly it runs. It is easy to thread, making new bobbins is no problem, and all the different stitch types look great. If I have to mention any downsides, I'd say it is a little harder to control its speed than I have been used to with other machines; it is quite fast, and trying to touch the pedal lightly is difficult without grinding to a halt. The pedal could be a little less sensitive. I read the full manual before beginning, and one thing I could have wanted was a little more advice regarding the correct stitch to use for stretchy fabrics. The manual tells you what needle to use, but not what stitch; it mentions one elastic stitch (no. 13), but this is for sewing bits of elastic together - not sewing in stretchy fabrics. Googling the problem is also a little tricky; you're told to consult your specific machine's manual, but that I had already done, to no avail. So I had to consult quite a few more experienced ladies to find out how to go about it. Still, I think this is a great machine, very user friendly and definitely good for a beginner, or someone who has been without a machine for a long time, but would like to take up sewing again. It really can do all the things you need for basic day to day sewing. It doesn't make trouble and is sturdy and reliable. And at this price, it is a real steal.

Really pleased with my purchase, easy to use and easy to set up. I like the way the spool is easy to fit, just pop it in no fiddling with it. Has a light over the needle so you can see what you are sewing. It has different settings for stitches, not used them yet. It did take me a few goes at getting the tension right, but comes with clear instructions and a DVD which I could not view as I don't have a DVD player but managed with the instructions. It's not heavy easy to carry, the only downside is it does not have a proper carry handle only a grip space at the back but it's not that heavy. Came very well packaged with all parts very secured and kept in place. Not a very big machine but does a good job.

Easy to set up and very good to use. It’s a pity that there isn’t a guide to use the different stitches as I do not have a DVD. I will have to use trial and error.

I Bought a brother lx17 sewing machine six months ago after doing an afternoon course on how to do simple jobs on a sewing machine, the machine i used on the course was a brother lx17, it was easy to use for a beginner like me, i had to get one, i have only done simple jobs on it like taking up the legs of my jeans, the ocasionel patch, my wife seems to have taken it over at the moment making a patchwork quilt . its a great machine for a beginner, and the experienced user, simple to thread , a stich selection dial,button hole foot, button sewing foot, and zipper insertion foot, full instructions and a DVD, i was so pleased with the macine i bought my daughter, one for her birthday,

Love it nice machine to use, easy to set up ( dvd supplied) I've been sewing gor a long time its perfect and nice and quiet ( doesn't come with many accessories) I quilt alot its great for that no issues I can highly recommend this machine

Bought to replace a much older Brother sewing machine that is still working great after many years service and now passed on to one of the kids, decided to replace it with something a bit less hassle to use especially in the threading up department. This machine fits the bill perfectly it has a slightly smaller footprint than the older model making it easier to store when not in use, plus it has enough basic stitches for most average persons in a home environment and the drop in bobbin is a boon for us oldies who`s eyesight isn't quite as perfect as it used to be. It does exactly what it says on the tin and of course you can purchase other bits and bobs like feet for other actions (sewing in zips etc)to make it more versatile. All in all a good purchase at a very reasonable price.

This was bought to replace an old Brother machine. So far I have found it easy to operate. It is also much lighter than my old one.

Easy to use, quick and does the job. To save spending money on repairs or too easily to buy new- I decided to repair instead. It's a good machine for general repairs

Die Maschine sieht gut aus und macht große Lust aufs Nähen. Ich habe mich wirklich wirklich auf die Maschine gefreut. Leider kann ich sie nicht benutzen, weil sie keinen deutschen Stecker hat. Das stand wirklich nicht in der Produktbeschreibung. So ein Ärger! Ich wollte damit Ostergeschenke nähen...

Maschine hat keinen deutschen Stecker, daher nicht zu verwenden. in der Produktbeschreibung steht nicht, das die Maschine in Deutschland verwendet werden kann!!!
