It has markings on both the sides, one is in inches and one in centimetres. **Q: Hi im just starting out quilting and wondered if this mat suitable to use for quilting with a cutting wheel ?** A: My wife does not make quilts but has been using the.mat to cut lots of felt with a cutting wheel and the Matt has performed perfectly without the cutter damaging it.She would recommend. **Q: Is it suitable to use a rotary cutter on it - does it mark?** A: It's designed for use with a rotary cutter - when they say "self healing" they mean the cuts don't appear. Its thick which means i don't need to worry about damaging my table and the measurements on the mat are extremely helpful. There have been occasions i have cut a bit too deep and made scratches but a few rubs and looks good as new. Its easy to clean with a simple wipe and doesnt slip. I love that it is large, which makes cutting my work much easier. Customer service review: The first order of the mat the corners were damaged and chipped. Along with some scratches on the mat. This was due to improper packaging for delivery as it was only wrapped in a clear plastic. Which provided very little protection to the item during delivery. When i contacted customer services about the issue, they were very helpful to resolve this and we were able to come to a resolution. Overall, i would recommend the mat as it is of very good quality.
