Review: Excellent for Overclocking - I'm overclocking at 4.8ghz (hitting 72c max temp under artificial load for an hour with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo) and I couldn't be happier with this processor for an upgrade over my Pentium G3258. It of course came along with the upgrade to an LGA 1151 motherboard and DDR4 RAM, but it was definitely worth the cost. I'm using a GTX 970 with this processor until I can save enough up for an upgrade, and I'm getting very respectable framerates (I shoot for at least 60 and can get this on all of my games). This isn't massively relevant to the processor though since it's mostly tied to the performance of my GPU, but the point is you shouldn't be experiencing a bottleneck if you're using a single GPU with this processor. It's probably not worth getting this chip as an upgrade to Skylake, and you can save yourself a further twenty quid if you aren't overclocking. However if you do decide to go with an unlocked chip you can't do much better than this at the moment if you're building a PC with gaming in mind (especially in terms of cost to performance with i7s coming in at quite a bit more expensive for what really are diminishing returns in regard to frames per second). The chip didn't come with a stock cooler, which I didn't miss and doesn't necessarily make the most sense since it's unlocked and you should really be using an after-market cooler to take advantage of that anyway, but if you wanted another stock cooler to add to your collection you will be missing out. Don't forget to be careful with your mobo since Kaby Lakes might not work out of the box on certain motherboards, and to overclock you'll really need a Z270 or Z170 (if you can get a BIOS update, which you do need a working processor for first or to have faith that the manufacturer/seller has done that for you already). I'd say you're getting pretty good value with this processor, and it's pretty ideal for a gaming PC! Review: Performed as expected - I have just replaced a computer that had this processor in it for over 7 years without incident and I'm amazed that desertcart is still selling it. You'll want a Z270 board if you want it to support this without an update, or look for a Z170 board with "Q-Flash Plus" which allows you to update the BIOS with a USB flash-drive even if you have no CPU installed.
