Cross headed and driven in with a drill ...I think I used at least 4.5cm....probably 5cm length. But any good outdoor screws would do....you can Google the best types/coatings. Look out for types that do not perform well in treated wood. The holes allow for quite thick screws too. They are good solid brackets. **Q: Can these brackets be use on oak sleepers as been advised to use only stainless steel???** A: I used them on oak sleepers with no problems what so ever. They haven't rusted yet (which is the only reason why you'd use stainless Steel) and I used them at least 2 or 3 years ago.
