The 2 1/2 head and 1 1/4 diameter is about right and pretty standard for d cells. It is also quite heavy and makes for a sturdy club. Completely sealed against the weather. Should last a lifetime. Those other answers may be for the 3 cell. **Q: Why does Maglite so adamantly refuse to honor its warranty? The design of this flashlight encourages batteries to leak and wreck the flashlight.** A: Mag-Lite has a Trade-In program that you can trade in a damaged or older light for a new one at a discount. I had a 12+ year old incandescent Mag-Lite that I left in my shed for the past year and a half which the excessive heat in the shed during the summer (100+F) caused the batteries inside of it to not only leak, but ATE a football shaped hole right through the barrel. The light still worked, but I could not remove the tailcap. Fortunately I live where Mag-Lite is located, and drove down to trade in my 2 D-cell light for a brand new LED version for less than $25! Can't beat that, and I didn't even have to ship mine to them. While that's not like a warranty, it's far better than if they were to tell you to kick rocks. Sorry for added non relevant detail. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Incredibly bright *by M***S on 9 February 2016* I bought one of these back in 2013 and I have just ordered a second. Please note the original torch is still working perfectly, I am just so impressed with it that I felt I needed one for upstairs.Don't be put off by the fact that this has a single LED, it is very, very bright. The focus on the beam is also adjustable so that you can have anything from a near spotlight to a fairly wide beam. The packaging says the beam will go 388 metres. I don't know if this is true and I don't really have any way of testing it but on the tight focus I can certainly shine a light on nearby trees and houses so it must be going at least 100m.This torch feels very sturdy; it has a metal casing with a purposely roughened area so that you won't lose your grip in the wet. In spite of that, it has survived me dropping it without even a scratch. If anything, at 665g, it is possibly a little too heavy for prolonged use but apart from that, I can think of nothing to criticize.It uses two 'D' cell batteries. Mine are still going strong after three years but in fairness I don't use the torch very often. I suspect that at my current rate of use, the batteries will expire before the torch drains them.All in all, if you want a very good, bright torch then buy this one. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very sturdy with excellent battery life *by P***J on 19 January 2020* These torches/flashlights are very sturdily made and have an excellent battery life using 2 off D type battery cells. Straightforward operation (on and off) and feeling that it will survive anything make them an excellent torch/flashlight.Pros:1. Well made. Solid metal case with rubber seals.2. Excellent battery life.3. Bright light with controllable coverage.Cons:1. Quite large (necessitated by the use of D type batteries).2. Darkish hole at the centre when using wide coverage.With the proliferation of small bright torches with unnecessary options for flashing, SOS etc. and short battery lives, this torch makes a welcome change. It is a straightforward, bright, robust and long battery life torch that just works. Love it.
