Space Command Small Animal Housing

In view of all the other comments I was a bit apprehensive about buying this cage due to the difficulties in putting it together and not being able to get to your hamster, etc. etc. HOWEVER, after buying this and putting it together in a matter of 30 minutes, I was so pleased at the outcome! It's true the instructions are a bit too vague, but this doesn't matter as it is pretty easy to put together using your initiative. Everything comes apart easily giving you much access to your little friend and also means it can all be taken apart for cleaning which makes this a perfect home for a little hamster, mine loves it!! I would definitely recommend this to anyone out there wanting a cage as it is versatile, easy maintenance and when put together properly hardly any risk of Houdini attempts! Another awesome aspect which you can't see on this picture is the lid of the main part is slightly glittery and I can't wait to buy more bits to make it into a proper burrow! Don't let the building opinions put you off! Buy it and have a go, if you really do struggle it can always be sent back, but I can assure you, you won't!!

I received this product a day before the estimated delivery date which was good. Didn't have any trouble putting it together etc. From then i thought everything was ok but then i noticed the home and away unit wasn't included. It's a real disappointment because its a good and spacious cage and I'm sure my hamster will love it. I go away in a few weeks and needed a way of transporting my hamster to my friends as she's looking after it, now i have to go out and buy another unit which I'm not pleased about at all.

I struggled through gritted teeth to put this thing together for our youngest son's hamster. I consider myself to be quite handy at DIY and no stranger to flat pack furniture but this thing was defeating me. I enlisted the help from someone with a degree in engineering and it took them over an hour to finish what I started. The instructions need a serious review. I imagine if you are seasoned hamster owners and used to these contraptions you would think I'm making a fuss, but to the uninitiated- be warned. This thing will push you to the edge of your sanity. Once constructed and hamster in place, our child loved watching the hamster run up and down the tubes. All was well until a week later and we wanted to clean it out and found that process very tiresome. There are so many tubes and holes to watch as you get into it to try and coax the furry creature out- frankly it's a pain in the a$$e. We also felt that the hamster was missing out on fresh air being behind the plastic in each compartment and only one part had a small inch or so of wire with air flow. So this has been dismantled cleaned and back in the box, and we reverted back to the more traditional cage which actually gives the poor thing much more space and airflow. In conclusion I wouldn't recommend this at all!

Depending on Rotastak for my small animals housing needs has always been a safe bet. I was worried about other reviewers' comments about things falling apart and needing to resort to sticky tape, but curious and confident that I had used all of these products in my early years, I was sure that for my children, I could get it together. It is clear for me, that the bendy tubes in the picture are all of the others' problems due to being a little fiddly and requiring patience in routing design and alignment of the upper and lower housing units to get a good fit, if you try to force it - tada! the parts pop apart and clatter to the table top, mocking your efforts. Slow down, rotate each tube in relation to the next and like a wriggling snake, you can find the alignment that works. Maybe Rotastak could expand the instructions to help out the less dextrous with some handy hints, but after all, it went together fine, it's secure and the hampy loves it. Good work!

Well this is great for my son, the hole thing is exciting, working well for children and hampsters. The only problem is the tubing. The rounded and yellow pieces are brittle and hard to put together. So when it comes to cleaning you wont be able to put it back together again and beware not all Rotastak fit with each other.

This cage is a very good one. Takes quite a while too put together but once up is brilliant for your hamster. It is hard to get a hamster out of the cage as the tubing gets in the way. But this cage works well for my Sryian hamster and he enjoys all the space and room in this cage. Would recommend to others looking for a hamster cage!

The hamster cage was perfect for our Syrian hamster, a lot of the cages we looked at were too small, but this one is ideal spacious, so we have one happy hamster now. The tubes are a bit fiddly and changing the hamster is a little harder now, as there are more sections and the tubes do come apart. It is however a good sturdy, secure cage so no escaping hamster. The bottle was little small for a Syrian, but that is ok we will swap it, overall very happy great cage and the children love it too as it is a space theme.

We bought this as a replacement for our existing cage ,it is spacious ,lots of areas for your hamster to explore ..strong and no bars that the bedding will go through as in our exiting one! but our dwarf hamster could not get between each compartment unless you adapt it. I sadly had to sell it and buy exactly the same model as we had ....others gave great reviews but our hamster just didn't prefer this design ...maybe if it was her first home but as we've had her for a year she likes her old one ....bars to gnaw on & easier tubes to climb...
