Review: Excellent pocket binoculars - highly recommended - Fantastic pocket binoculars. Great quality from Nikon; really clear, bright field of view with little edge distortion. Solidly made yet reasonably lightweight; easy to adjust to personal preferences (depending on eyesight); comfortable & easy to use. Includes neck strap and tough, soft case; lens caps for eyepieces only (no idea why not for objectives). Also waterproof which is amazing at this price (haven't tested this and don't intend to but more confident with these if it's raining). Perfect for bird watching, etc.

Small enough to fit in a shirt pocket (also comes with a strap for around the neck), great for distances - even better than you'd expect for this size/price. Only criticism would be the lens caps are easy to lose because they don't come with any sort of attaching strap. Guess you just have to be careful...

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do the eye cups twist out to adjust for glasses?**
A: Yes - they do twist out individually about a quarter turn.

**Q: Have just received a pair of these but they do not seem to zoom in/out - am i missing something here as central "wheel" does nothing**
A: I have these binoculars and consider them to be excellent for the price but they are not zoom binoculars. The central wheel is for focussing only! To focus properly you should view an object in the distance through the left eyepiece, closing the right eye and then use the focus wheel to sharpen the image. Because most peoples eyesight varies slightly between left and right eyes the binoculars have an adjustable eyepiece for the right eye so once you have focussed with the left eye close that eye and view the same object with your right eye but only adjust the focus using the adjuster on the right eyepiece - not the focussing wheel! Now view the object with both eyes open and it should be in perfect focus. Hope this helps  !!

**Q: Is it better to go for  10x mag instead of 8x for magnification although 8x has much better brightness**
A: I would go for 8X.  10X has more magnification obviously but the image jumps around a lot.   Most birdwatchers go for 7X for example.  I also think weight is a factor so I tend to use my smaller and lighter binoculars more than my heavier binoculars.  If you want something with serious magnification you can go for one of the Image Stabilized binoculars. Canon makes some great ones but they are heavy.  I have a set of 18X which are amazing for viewing the moons of jupiter or craters on our own moon for example but they are heavy and not really practical for example if you're watching a sports event, plus they are very expensice.   So i would go for 8X in a small lightweight set like the Nikon sportstar.  I also have a set of Zeiss binoculars which are higher quality and made with better materials and several times more expensive but the Nikons are almost as good and a lot less painful if they fall out of your lap onto cement. **Q: Are these bins good for horse racing ?..if so which strength?**
A: Should be great for horse racing - lightweight, easy to carry and excellent quality 10x magnification is probably ok because if you went for stronger then could be difficult to hold onto the subject being viewed. ie shake !!

I bought these to go on safari. I wanted something light that would still give me decent viewing. These were ideal. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent optics but some niggles

The clarity is exceptional and there are no aberrations that I can see. The image is clear and bright and I really can't fault it. I have used a cheap pair of binoculars for many years and they have been useful but the image quality can't compare. However, I am surprised to have to say that the construction and the smoothness of focusing is better on the £16 pair! The focusing wheel on the Nikon has a lot of play, whereas on the cheap pair there is no play at all. The ring for adjusting the right scope independently is very tight on the Nikon. The eye cups on the other hand are so loose that they just retract when you put your eyes to them. I don't find that they are needed at all - I don't wear glasses but I can use them comfortably with the eye cups retracted, but they are still a nuisance because they are so loose. Why they don't have a simple means of clicking into place is beyond me. To summarise, it is a surprise and a shame that Nikon have skimped on the tolerances and details of an optically perfect product. I would still recommend them unless you will be using them on a daily basis, in which case you would probably find them annoying to use.
