How can these be advertised as "hook and loop" closure when it is clearly velcro??? Amazon, why allow this?

Hook and loop IS Velcro. Velcro is a patented name for hook and loop fasteners, it is a brand name. Perhaps this company is not using the Velcro brand and cannot call it that.

How many sheet of paper can fit in one pocket?

I purchased this product to use in my card-making/scrapbook crafting, so instead of paper, I store my clear stamps in them. That being said, in my opinion, if it can fit stamps in them, I'm pretty sure it could hold quite a bit of paper. I wouldn't hesitate to use if for paper storage, the pockets are sturdy and flexible enough. I hope this helps

Does an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet fit inside these envelopes?

Yes it does as the Envelope Size: 11.4" x 9.25 " and based on personal experience it holds many sizes and I have put in the standard page size which is 8.5 x 11

Heavy duty and fit well in notebook.

The pockets are of a heavy plastic and the amount of velcro is more than adequate for keeping the envelopes shut. It doesn't hold as much as I would like. After 3 pages, 8 1/2 x 11 size, the pages fold on the size to fit in.
