Rev-A-Shelf Cabinet Door Mount Kit for Kitchen Base Cabinet Organizers

I just finished installing these in seven of our kitchen cabinets as icing on the kitchen remodel cake. Really tired of getting down on the floor to pull out the heavy mixer or juicer from the back in the bottom of a dark cabinet. UPDATE: 1 year and all units are working great. No issues. Pros: Nice chrome finish and fairly sturdy. I would have preferred the Rev-A Shelf birch wood units but too expensive for our budget. These are reasonable in comparison. Assembly of the unit is about 10 minutes. Cons: Installation took a couple hours for the first one. Maybe 20-30 minutes for each additional unit. Some things were not obvious. See tips below. Several assembly screws easily snapped off. Glad there were extras. My experience: The units are 1/2" smaller than the cabinet opening. I ordered for an 18"w cabinet opening and the unit is 17.5"w. That allows for clearance for protruding door hinges. The instructions said to mount the unit away from the door hinges (off center in the cabinet) which leaves a 1/2" gap on the hinge side. That side just stands in the air unattached or anchored. Being off center bothered me. I would need to add some kind of blocking to move the units to a centered position. In my case I also ordered the door mounts to convert the doors from hinged to a pull out configuration. That's where my confusion started. The door mount brackets were off center from the doors position directly below the drawer because the units were installed off center. I didn't have enough door frame to mount the door that off center. There are round discs (spacers) included with the door mount bracket kits that will allow you to move the brackets left or right but it looked odd to me. I realized that I could use the round discs (spacers) to center the whole unit by using the spacers in between the unit frame and the door frame on either side. The four spacers provided at the four front anchor points. I had to provide longer screws to make this work. The result was a centered unit in the cabinet opening with a centered door pull. See pictures of the spacer positions. Tips: 1. Hand tighten the assembly screws. They snapped easily with a screw gun, even with the drag set low. 2: If you are installing the door brackets (separate kit) use the spacers to center your unit in the cabinet opening rather than off center. See pictures 3: Install the drawers so that you are sure the brackets that attach to the back of the cabinet are truly parallel and won't bind the drawer slides. Mark the holes, remove the drawers and mount the rear brackets. Then attach the unit to the bottom/base with the four screws provided. 4: Mounting the door to the brackets: Attach the brackets to the bottom drawer. Tighten the screws just until the brackets stay in place but can still move if pushed with some force. Apply the the double stick tape to the bracket faces. Pull the drawer slightly so that it just sticks out beyond the cabinet face. Line up the door panel under the drawer face right to left and also the door top down from the bottom of the drawer face. Press firmly in toward the brackets so that the brackets adjust from the pressure and the double stick tape adheres to the door panel.. Carefully open the door/drawer and attach the screws. Note: The instructions said to face the brackets outward. This did not work for our doors so we turned them inward.

My husband is a carpenter and used to strict dimensions. I sew a lot and am used to "easing: material. The interesting thing about the door mount is that it is more seamstress-style than carpenter-style. There's quite a bit of "flex" when connecting the door mechanism to the base, making it easy to install perfectly for those who are not used to precise measurements. I wouldn't say that installation was easy, but the process was well-thought-out and easy to follow. Various door widths and thicknesses are accommodated. Supplying double-stick tape to use to align the door is brilliant. If you have an RV pull-out base, this pullout kit for attaching the door is highly recommended.

This worked really well with the rev a shelf system. We used it to attach the door to the rev a shelf pull out trash can. It was easy to install. Sometimes I need to tighten the bolts, but otherwise pretty sturdy.

The installation on these should be easy, but mine took a bit more work. First off, I installed 2 rev-a-shelves in a double cabinet, as you can see in my photos. This meant fooling around with the installation of those. Then, I had no choice but to install these door mounts, as my French (interior) hinges wouldn't fit with the new shelving units in there. That was fine; I wanted them anyway. But because of my configuration, I couldn't mount them the way the directions indicated. They want the brackets that attach to the cabinet door to be facing out, parallel with the front of the basket. Because I have a second rev-a-shelf right next to the first, this wouldn't work, as they'd overlap and the shelves couldn't slide out. It took a bit of rearranging, but I got the brackets to face inward. You can see them on the second photo. Here, they look inconveniently in the way, but remember, your door is going to mount on the front, anyway, so that isn't a problem. What is a slight problem is that the long screws now stick out into the basket interior. I don't think this will be a problem for me, since they are very close to the cabinet door when the installation is complete. If they are, I'll find a hacksaw, I guess. Then, the cabinet door didn't stick to the double stick tape so that I could drill the holes (if you have hard wood cabinet doors, you'll need a drill. Just don't drill all he way through the cabinet door face). When I tried to press the door onto the tape on the brackets, the brackets retreated into the cabinet, along with the rails they're attached to. That's how the rails are supposed to work. So I had to pull the basket out, prop the door on a box, and pull the brackets towards it, press them together, where they didn't hold at all well, and use the pre-cut duct tape I'd prepared to tape the brackets to the doors while pressing with both knees and holding with one hand and letting my reading glasses slide off into the basket so that I now couldn't read the tiny print on the directions. I managed to rescue the glasses with only a little slippage of the cabinet door. Then, I gently eased the door/basket assembly, along with the supporting box, back into the cabinet to make sure it was in the right place. It wasn't. Having memorized the directions, the reading glasses were no longer needed, and without that encumbrance, my next try to get it lined up was more successful. I measured carefully on the next cabinet door installation, instead, and marked the back of the door. Still, propping on the box, pressing into the double stick tape, and then using the duct tape really needed several more hands than I currently possess. Be aware that the product says it's adjustable. It is; you can correct for height (unless you started out with the brackets at one extreme or the other) and you can straighten it if it's not entirely level. What you can't do is move the door left or right. My installation ended up with the cabinet doors meeting about 1/8" to the right of where the drawers above them meet. I will have to see if this drives me nuts. It very well could. I'm going to install rev-a-shelves in my other double cabinet. I shall certainly have help mounting the cabinet doors on the brackets. I think that will be too many legs in the way, but will provide enough arms to get the doors properly centered with the drawers above and no sagging due to stretching duct tape. Now that they're in, I love the way they work and the way they look (except for not being quite centered). It's so organized and easy to find my things and to put everything away. But these are a bear to install on a double cabinet. I shall have to wait a while until the difficulties I encountered have faded a bit in memory before installing any more. Or until the other cabinet drives me around the bend.

I bought this awhile back but only got a chance to install it now. It works great and exactly as I want. The instructions could be somewhat better, but its fairly straightforward product to install.

Exactly as advertised. Installation was a breeze -- I like to think I'm a "DIYer", but in reality I tend to start about twice as many projects as I actually finish (okay, my wife might say it's more like 3-5x as many projects, heh). The only difficult part was getting the alignment perfect, and that was easily solved: just a little bit of patience, 60 seconds of assistance from the wife, and use of the [perfectly thought out] double-sided tape to temporarily hold things in place before screwing it down. The only complaint I have: I managed to break a few of the included screws that go into the cabinet itself but that was easily solved with a few spare screws from around the house. I suspect that this was just a result of our cabinets being oak & a bit on the thicker side, and Rev-A-Shelf trying to make sure the screws are small enough that no one will accidentally puncture their cabinets, and perhaps me torquing a bit too much. ;-) All in all, a *fantastic* addition to our kitchen (no more disgusting trash cans sitting around in the kitchen), very solid & well-made, and at a surprisingly low price given the high quality -- especially compared to having a custom trashcan area added via the "custom cabinetry" route which can cost many hundreds more than the cost of this project!! Wish we'd done it & bought this years ago!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Good product. Pricey for what it is, but this isn't all that surprising for a one-time purchase product. Bought this for use with a trash can slider (Rev-A-Shelf RV-18KD-18C S Double 35 Quart Sliding Pull Out Kitchen Cabinet Waste Bin), and installed both at the same time to ensure alignment would be right. Install was a piece of cake and didn't take any longer than suggested in the instructions, maybe less. No problems with the wood screws or double-sided sticky tape others have mentioned. Some have mentioned that it was a problem that the door brackets extended beyond the cabinet frame - this is not a problem as long as your door covers the brackets, and it will not interfere with the door closing all the way. I made one minor adjustment to the door brackets to adjust for tilt top to bottom - I did this even before I put the door on because I could see the angle would otherwise be wrong. Stuck the door on with the tape and made one more minor adjustment for height (I actually did this by unsticking the door and resticking - the tape was strong enough that I actually had a little difficulty unsticking it). And done. Works perfectly. I would only suggest one improvement to the instructions, which is that you'll need a small wrench or plier to hold the stop-nuts which you screw on the L-brackets - a small plier would be best based on the slider frame that, in this case, will otherwise get in the way.

We're incredibly impressed with the thoughtful design, customer service, and reasonable pricing of this product and the Rev-A-Shelf wastebasket product we purchased and installed. It's obvious that the company designed and built these items while actually using and testing them, because all of the bugs have been worked out and these products work. We had a problem with shipping and it was quickly resolved. We're thrilled to have our trash and recycling hidden with a custom-built style and easy to manage contents. The smaller trash cans make for lighter trips to the outside bins, and we don't have ugly garbage bins taking up floorspace. This set of brackets were slightly more complicated to install than the pull-out rails, but it's great to have the door attached for easy use and great appearance. We'll probably need to make slight adjustments, but we're waiting through a few weeks of use to see how everything settles. We're considering pull-out shelves for a different cupboard next, and will definitely purchase another set of these brackets when we do. Great product and company!
