The few overhead lights are powered on/off by pull chains. Pull on them for years and they eventually jam. This means a tall person has to try to unjam, using a stepstool, and it's not always successful. If you can't unjam, you're faced with replacing the entire light fixture.I was lucky: the overhead light that jammed was in the "on" position. So I could just temporarily unscrew the light bulb. But how to fix? Getting an electrician to install a new light can cost $100 or more.This little miracle worker did the trick. Using a floor lamp, I "paired" the matching bulb for the ceiling light with the remote and tested it. Pairing was super-simple!Cue the helpful tall person, who installed the paired bulb in the ceiling fixure and replaced the glass cover.Then I used the included sticky tape to stick the remote to a convenient wall. I'm not sure why they bother including a plastic border for the remote; I just discarded that, leaving a sleek little 2"x3" wall switch.One innovation I added: the remote came with an indented circle and line for "on" or "off." I'm a tech idiot so I can't EVER remember which is which. (And I'll bet other older folk unused to symbols or with poor eyesight might not, either.) So I put a spot of GREEN nail polish on the "on" symbol and a spot of RED on the "off." So even without my reading glasses I can easily see what to push.I liked this enough I bought another for a room with no overhead light at all and used it in a plain old pole light. I always used to have to reach for the pole switch and it was a big PIA if my hands were full. This gadget solved that problem as well.I may end up buying more.
